Children’s Hospital & Medical Center with the University of Nebraska College of Medicine is recruiting an Academic Pediatric Surgeon. Children’s is a vibrant and growing free-standing pediatric teaching hospital and Nebraska’s only full service pediatric specialty health care center focused on extraordinary clinical care, education, clinical, outcomes and basic research, as well as , advocacy. The hospital is embarking on transformational programmatic and physical growth to address our local, regional, national and global patient care. The hospital has a Level IV Regional NICU, Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, Specialized Clinical Pediatric Services, and 24/7 Pediatric Intensivists. We have 50+ Specialty Clinics, 200+ Specialists, 14 Satellite Offices, multiple Pediatric Fellowship programs, and is Magnet Certified. Our new campus expansion plans include an additional 100 beds to the existing 145, expansion to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, Fetal Care Center and Fetal Surgery, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Center including dedicated intensive care, Short-Stay Observation Unit, Emergency Department, and Surgical Services. The expansion will also provide new facilities to support Education, Clinical & Outcomes Research.
Physician Scientist: We specifically seek candidates at the associate or assistant professor level committed to developing a research program and expanding the academic portfolio of the division. The Child Health Research Institute has been established and will provide start-up funding and infrastructure for clinical, basic science, or transitional research investigators. In addition to their major research responsibilities this individual will share the general pediatric surgery patient care responsibilities which includes the full scope of pediatric surgical services, including special expertise in minimally invasive surgery, cancer surgery, and neonatal surgery as well as general pediatric surgery, non-cardiac thoracic surgery, gastroenterology, bariatric, head and neck, oncology, and thyroid surgery. The Division of Pediatric Surgery has an established and well regarded pediatric surgery fellowship. The successful candidate will be board certified or board eligible and hold a faculty appointment at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. Successful candidates will be committed to scholarly activity that advances surgical research in either a basic, or clinical/translational research track. Allocation of protected research time will be based on the candidate’s research activities and record of academic accomplishment. Candidates will have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. We seek individuals with strong emotional and social intelligence and a demonstrated ability to connect with others in a meaningful way at all levels of the organization and university.
