UW Bioengineering naturally evolved from partnerships between engineering and medicine. Today, our faculty and students continually reach across traditional boundaries in education and research. The interdisciplinary scope of our research spans five overarching themes: regenerative medicine and biomaterials, molecular and cellular engineering, imaging and image-guided therapy, technology to improve access to health care, and systems and synthetic biology.
The Department of Bioengineering currently has an outstanding opportunity for a RESEARCH SCIENTIST ENGINEER 4. This is a molecular bioengineering Research Scientist position. The position relies on strong and practical polymer design, synthesis, and characterization skills and requires good organizational ability. The molecualr bioengineer needs to effectively collaborate with lab personnel and manage the polymer chemistry and analytical chemistry effectively. The position applies knowledge of practical polymer therapeutics chemistry and related skills to create effective infectious disease and cancer therapeutics. It will require developing hypotheses and drawing conclusions from collected data. The person in this position with work with the PI, faculty, staff, research associates, and students.
Polymer therapeutics development (70%):
RAFT Polymer synthesis of therapeutic candidates
Design and synthesize new polymers that have desired PK and biodistribution properties
Design and synthesize new polymers that have desired safety profiles
Analyze polymer composition by NMR
Analyze polymer MW by GPC methods
Purify polymers to degree needed for disease model assessment
Pharmaceutics Development (20%):
Conduct LC-MS analysis of polymer therapeutics
Assist in analysis PK and biodistribution data of polymer therapeutics
Assist in generating polymer targeting data and analysis
Other Duties (10%):
Manage and assist students and research associates in polymer design, characterization, analysis
Conduct and maintain GPC and HPLC instrumentation
MS Degree in bioengineering, chemistry, or related field.
At least 4 years' experience.
Knowledge of RAFT Polymer Synthesis, proton and carbon NMR analysis, polymer therapeutic design, gel permeation chromatography analysis of polymer molecular weight, polydispersity characterization with heterogeneous polymer compositions, HPLC characterization of polymers, therapeutic evaluation of polymers in disease models
PH.D in chemistry, bioengineering or related field and five years experience.
Experience in multi-disciplinary therapeutics developments at biopharma industry. Experience working with students/post doc researchers.
