UW Bioengineering currently has an outstanding opportunity for a RESEARCH SCIENTIST ENGINEER 2.
This position is responsible for the development of a multiplexed quantitative lateral flow test for human antibodies for potential use in the diagnosis of malaria and other infectious diseases. Specific duties include:
Gather and interpret literature to identify prior work in immunoassay detection.
Test existing methods and develop new methods to detect antibodies over a wide dynamic range through both modeling and experiments.
Fabricate devices for testing immunoassays.
Track project milestones and timeline, and present results and milestone/timeline status to PI and collaborators.
Provide written monthly reports with results and progress toward project goals.
Maintain highly-professional relationship with collaborators
Collect and perform routine analysis of data and assist with trouble shooting and daily quality control of data.
Become trained and operate laboratory equipment safely and according to SOPs;
Present findings, conclusions and future work at laboratory and subgroup meetings:
Contribute ideas, solutions and provide innovative thinking to overcome technical challenges;
Analyze data and write manuscripts for publication
Contribute to lab management including safety compliance and supply stocking
Bachelor's degree in Chemical engineering, chemistry or biomedical engineering.
At least two years of related experience in a research or industry setting.
Experience working collaboratively in research setting and applying chemistry skills
Experience applying chemistry skills/approaches to develop extensions to existing methods.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Familiarity working within a group having diverse experience, knowledge and background.
Basic laboratory skills, including the ability to keep detailed records of procedures performed;
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desired skills and attributes:
Experience in the development of global health diagnostic and treatment technologies.
