About the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST)
The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) is a scientific and educational organization made up of over 1,300 surgeons practicing in mainly academic institutions. All members of the AAST are also members of The American College of Surgeons. For more information, visit www.aast.org.
The Education Manager will manage AAST educational initiatives: online, in-person, through committees and on an app.
This Exempt position will report to the AAST Executive Director in the Division of Finance.
AAST Annual Meeting – Manage abstract process, work with program chairman to select program, notify presenters, discussants, lunch session presenters, pre-session presenters, CME application, online CME process and reports as needed.
Online Educational Offerings – develop and manage program with education committee, contact presenters, manage CME paperwork and deadlines, create courses in the online system, update website as needed, develop marketing plan. Manage archive of online offerings including CME paperwork, building courses online and yearly reporting for live and archived webinars.
Journal CME – work with managing editor and associate editor to select articles , invite authors to participate, manage CME process, paperwork and deadlines. Yearly reporting required.
Committee Management – liaison to three committees, work on projects, education initiatives, planning and management conference calls.
Education App – research, manage and work with education committee to develop an education app. Develop a process and timeline for new content.
Emergency Surgery Course – set up policies procedures for course, develop content for website, administrative liaison for course. Work with ESTES to offer courses.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
Minimum of four years of experience in a similar role or related job field.
Ability to collaborate and work directly with AAST Board of Managers, Committee Chairs, Committee members, and members.
Previous experience with LMS or E- Learning systems preferred.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) necessary to effectively interact with all levels of organization.
Meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and Adobe Acrobat.
Display high level of energy and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Self-motivated and able to work independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to plan and prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
Ability to establish strong working relationships with all division teams and management.
Experience in Associations, professional services, healthcare, and/or education desired.
Experience with researching surgical companies for unrestricted educational grants preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is required to make specific work assignments to others and to ensure their timely and accurate completion.
Fiscal Management: This position is required to provide staff support to the supervisor in the development and management of the unit’s annual budget, program or project budget.
Physical/Work Environment: Fast paced with significant people interaction. No lifting over 20 pounds, minimal reaching bending and stooping. Performs work in a normal office environment with long hours in front of the computer.
Other Necessary Requirements: Evening or weekend duties may be required. Moderate travel for activities such as out of town meetings is required.
