The Perioperative Materials Management Coordinator, in conjunction with the Perioperative Materials Management Clerk, is responsible for facilitating and implementing processes and systems for monitoring material and inventory control for the entire department.
Primary responsibilities include inventory management, supply chain management, computer/data base tracking and preparation of financial reports related to supply/cost analysis
Manages all aspects of Perioperative Services inventory including, but not limited to, ordering stock and non-stock items, receiving and distribution to appropriate areas
Acts as the keeper of the surgery and ancillary inventories
Approves all non-stock and stock requisitions
Assists with storeroom set-up, assures that all items are labeled and well organized
Maintains records of all purchases and standing orders
Establishes PAR levels and reorder points for all items for the department, in conjunction with the specialty staff for each area of the department
Reports non/slow-moving items. Works to decrease inventory stock levels, while maintaining adequate stock on hand
Works with Perioperative Resource & Technology Coordinator on the yearly/bi-yearly physical inventory in conjunction with the Perioperative Computer Coordinator and the Perioperative Materials Management Clerk. Insures that the inventory is performed correctly and that counts are correct
Assists in preparation of financial reports highlighting utilization and cost effectiveness of supplies, cost per procedure, and comparative benchmarks
Generates routine and ad-hoc reports as requested by the Administrative Director of Perioperative Services
Analyzes cost data in relationship to usage while maintaining quality clinical outcomes
Maintains effective communication with Perioperative Services personnel and physicians, insuring availability of supply, instrument or equipment needs based on scheduled surgical procedures and notifies Perioperative Services personnel and physicians of out of stock supplies or equipment for repair
Knowledgeable with Surgical Information Systems (SIS)
Maintains open purchase order report and communicates with Sales Representative any issues with timeliness
Serves as an active change agent in relation of standardization and utilization
Ensures objective of providing patient care in a cost effective manner through effective utilization of, and savings from, GPO contracted supplies and equipment
Facilitates system wide coordination to insure cost-effective utilization of supplies and material in Perioperative Services; utilizing ECRI and EMTS to benchmark pricing
Continuously monitors processes in place to ensure that cost benefits have been achieved
Collaborates with Perioperative Services Director and Materials Management Manager to facilitate capitol acquisitions.
Manages equipment, material, and supplies within budget and determines root cause of variances and helps develop plans for improvement
Manages inventory levels to maximize inventory turn while maintaining adequate stock
Facilitates processes of maintaining and updating fixed assets of the Perioperative Services Department and collaborates with appropriate departments to ensure accurate records of fixed assets
Maintains current knowledge of materials management issues by participating in continuing education
Interacts with vendors and keeps up to date access to their contact information.
Keeps the Inventory List in each of the Operating Rooms in a standard format with updates added on a regular basis.

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Healthcare preferred.
Experience in acute health care, including experience with hospital financial reports, value analysis, supply chain management, budgeting and staff supervision preferred
Knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Word and Excel Must be organized and self-disciplined with attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
