General Statement of Duties: The Director for the Reimagine North of Main Initiative (RNoM) plays a critical role in the day-to-day and strategic management of the partnership, serving as both the public face of the partnership as well primary point of contact. Responsible for the overall development, implementation, and oversight of partnership initiatives. ReImagine North of Main is a partnership—local businesses, university, government, nonprofits and, most importantly, residents—committed to making a collective impact, and dedicated to improving the quality of life in the North of Main neighborhood of Fitchburg. The collaboration is focused in three key areas: economic development, housing, and community engagement. Through resident and stakeholder engagement, policy advocacy and responsible development, the goal is to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood resulting in a ReImagined North of Main where residents and businesses want to live, work, play, and invest. The Director is the primary liaison to build key relationships regarding the development of the project.
RNoM is grant funded collective-impact initiative, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts, as well as a number of other sources have provided the grant funding. The collaborative initiative is led by a Leadership Team of: Fitchburg State University, City of Fitchburg, Fitchburg Art Museum, Minority Coalition of North Central Massachusetts, Montachusett Opportunity Council and NewVue Communities. Fitchburg State University will serve as the lead for this collaborative, and the Director is employed by Fitchburg State University.
Over the past three years, ReImagine North of Main has been responsible for systems change throughout Fitchburg’s North of Main Neighborhood. ReImagine (i) engaged hundreds of residents who work to make their neighborhood a better place to live, (ii) developed a capital absorption plan that now has $50 million in the pipeline that will help cement the neighborhood’s position as a gateway to arts and culture, (iii) begun to re-engage and revitalize downtown Fitchburg by creating a more walking and business friendly environment, and (iv) created a new housing plan for the neighborhood to engage the private sector and renovate existing housing stock. Duties & Responsibilities:
Establish, cultivate and maintain strong working and trusting relationships with all key stakeholders, including Leadership Team and ReImagine’s 35+ Advisory Committee members, North of Main residents, and other partners.
Responsible for understanding and leading efforts in three key areas: economic development, housing, and community engagement to meet project objectives.
Serve as the public face of ReImagine at events in local, regional, and statewide coalitions, and via other public forums.
Facilitate and guide all strategic decision making in close collaboration with the various working groups of the partnership: the Leadership Team, Advisory Committee and other partners.
Responsible for oversight and coordination, in consultation with the Leadership Team, of the partnership work plan, initiatives and outcomes.
Assist the partnership with the development and management of the annual budget process. Responsible for oversight and management of the budget in coordination with Fitchburg State University Accounting Department.
Maintain accurate records and frequent communication with partners, stakeholders, and funders.
Identify, write and manage grants for ongoing operation support and special projects in consultation with the Leadership Team.
Assist with the oversight of all staff and contractors working with the organization.
Assist with the oversight of all marketing efforts, including social media, print material, and press engagement.
Other duties as required by the organization.
Bachelor’s Degree required, masters preferred in, community planning, economic development, public administration, volunteer or non-profit administration, housing, historic preservation and/or small business development or a related field.
At least 3 years of managing economic or community development initiatives, or relevant professional experience. Proven experience in nonprofit administration/leadership desired.
Entrepreneurial, energetic, imaginative, well organized and capable of functioning effectively in an independent setting.
Demonstrated ability in working in cross-functional teams; coordinating community-wide initiatives; identifying community decision makers and the resources they affect.
Ability to work as part of a collaborative and help the members of the collaborative, residents of the neighborhood and key stakeholders unite around a common agenda.
Excellent organizational, writing, public speaking and meeting facilitation skills.
Excellent technology skills and proficient in social media, website management and data collection and management.
Understand the issues confronting downtown businesses, property owners, public agencies, neighborhood residents, community organizations in a low income community.
Ability to relate to diverse constituencies and ability to establish harmonious working relationships.
Knowledge of Fitchburg and region desired. Spanish fluency a plus.
Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university.
