The Asia Legal team is looking for a Corporate Counsel to join them in Hong Kong. This role will provide general legal advice to operating areas of the firm as well as specific advice on products, services and certain legal actions. You are required to conclude complex legal transactions with minimal supervision. This role demonstrates a high degree of knowledge of substantive law and practical experience. This role is also a resource for the business to discuss challenging legal issues and the incumbent will demonstrate a readiness to make decisions and have personal accountability to achieve desired results for clients. Lastly, this position will constantly seek opportunities to expand substantive legal knowledge as it relates to our business.
What are the ongoing responsibilities of this position? Legal Review of Documents and Research
Completes legal review of materials (e.g. marketing materials and contracts) or analysis (e.g. regulatory and litigation events, applicable laws/regulations)
Independently negotiate terms with external parties when required
Drafting of Materials and Transactional Work
Review and prepare documentation for inter-company and corporate related matters
Review and prepare documentation for asset management related business and funds matters such as fund offering documents, contracts, Investment
Providing Legal Advice to Business in Asia Region
Advises business on actions required to comply with legal and regulatory obligations and contributes to decisions made by the business on appropriate course of action to minimize risk from financial or reputational loss
Initiates and facilitates meetings with internal clients (in person meetings and conference calls)
Conduct legal research and provide support to the Chief Legal Counsel and the firm's legal team
Qualifications What qualifications, skills and experience would help someone to be successful?
Degree from reputable law school and distinguished academic and professional experience
At least 6 years PQE in investment management/ financial/ corporate sector with a law firm and/or global financial services company
Knowledge of the asset management industry and experience in working on registration of investment products preferred
Ability to develops solutions to a variety of complex problems; ensures solutions are consistent with organization objectives
Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain positive working relationships
Excellent relational skills to interact with senior management/investment professionals on a regular basis
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently
Excellent command of spoken and written English
Spoken and written Chinese is highly preferred
Mentoring junior colleagues
Occasional travel required
