Residential Teaching Assistant Equinox Program
Each Equinox class is supported by a Residential Teaching Assistant (RTA) who supervises students in class and in the residence hall. RTAs serve as active and accessible role models to CTD students by upholding and promoting the CTD Honor Code. Auxiliary Residential Teaching Assistants (ARTAs) support students when RTAs are scheduled for time away. ARTAs complete other duties to support the residential program as assigned. RTAs live among their students and have 24/7 on-call responsibilities, including during scheduled time away.
Employment Dates and Stipend:
Full time work June 26 – August 10, 2017
Starting salary $3,800 increasing to $4,200 based on CTD Summer Program experience, plus room and board
Demonstrated academic success in undergraduate degree program; subject-area expertise preferred
Demonstrated interest in developing academic and social-emotional skills of adolescents; experience supporting students in academic and/or residential settings preferred.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills, including flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated commitment to job responsibilities, teamwork, and contract dates.
Positive and professional demeanor; enthusiasm to serve as a role model for peers and students
Ability to traverse distances of at least one mile with or without accommodation.
Ability to lift and/or maneuver 40lbs.
Learn and implement CTD and Northwestern Policies and Procedures.
Uphold and promote the CTD Honor Code among staff and students.
Maintain CTD’s standard of supervision at all times.
Support the instructor in course administration.
Support student engagement in classwork and homework, including hosting study sessions.
Support student engagement in residential programming, including leading student activities.
Build community among residents that is inclusive, positive, safe, and fun.
Support development of social-emotional skills among students, including sense-of-belonging, ability to listen, appreciation of diverse perspectives, self-advocacy, and conflict resolution.
Support student health regarding diet and exercise, hygiene, sleep, stress management, and any specific health needs indicated by the family.
Communicate with parents and guardians using best practices in customer service.
Communicate student needs with appropriate CTD support staff.
Evaluate student residential performance.
Evaluate summer program and summer program staff.
Provide support to any CTD program on the Evanston campus, as needed.
Assume program related responsibilities as requested by CTD administrative staff.
