The Support System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure services. Support System Administrators provide core support for other Information Technology teams who deliver both administrative and instructional technology support for the campus.
Installing, configuring, upgrading, and servicing enterprise-level SANs and servers.
Supporting shared services for network file storage, network commodity services (ADS, DNS, DHCP, etc.), to include assisting with some application-level services offered by other IT teams and/or campus departments.
Analyzing and resolving deeper-level issues encountered by other IT teams.
Installing, configuring, upgrading, servicing virtualized services used to serve both virtual servers and desktops, both on premise and in the cloud.
Some data center activities with placement of servers/SANs in racks, network wiring, etc.
Position requires working regularly scheduled maintenance windows performed outside of business hours (approximately 2-4 hours weekly) and occasionally working later evenings or weekends for critical service failures (sometimes with little, to no, advanced notice).
Applicant is required to have a minimum of 3 years of experience with the following:
Planning, installation, and management of server and desktop type 1 hypervisor (virtualization) technologies. Preference given to VMWare Vsphere or Windows Hyper-V Server hypervisor experience.
Windows server administration – unattended install, active directory, DFS/CIFS management and maintenance, security, etc.
Writing service/utility level scripts using Powershell
Applicant should be skilled in the following areas:

Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Some level of knowledge with the following is desired for this position:
Storage Architectures: SANs, RAID technologies, replication, etc.
Network services and protocols: DNS, DHCP, TFTP/SFTP, SSH, firewalls, TCP/UDP, network captures, etc.
Linux system administration – grub, run-level admin, scripting, packaging, rdist, security, logical volume management, etc.
Scripting CSH, BASH, Perl, Python, or other script languages.
Some knowledge in these areas would be of additional benefit for the position:
Web platform development software (HTML, PHP, Java, etc.)
Knowledge of software revision control and code review tools/processes.
Data Center power and cooling
