Part-time instructor needed for the upcoming fall semester, to teach one section of EASC 246 Oceanography, an introductory oceanography course. Topics include: introduction to the structure and origin of ocean basins; the origin and chemistry of seawater; the physical dynamics of the sea including oceanic circulation, waves, and tides; geology of coastal areas; some marine ecology; management practices for coastal and oceanic environments. Several field trips supplement lectures. Students range from non-science majors to science majors including Earth Science.
The section meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30pm to 4:20pm.
Ability to make the subject engaging and comprehensible to a wide range of students, and to teach to high standards, including quantitative treatments, is a must. Candidates from diverse, under-represented backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply.
Required Minimum Qualifications at Hire:
M.S. in Oceanography, Geology, Geophysics, or related field, and experience teaching at the undergraduate college level.
Preferred Qualifications at Hire:
Ph.D. in Physical or Geological Oceanography, or related field, and experience with best practices in science teaching at the college level.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, visiting lecturer position.
