The Department of Social Sciences at Tarleton State University is accepting applications for a full-time (9 month) tenure track assistant/associate professor in the field of Sociology. This position has a normal teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester. The selected applicant will teach general education survey courses in topics including Introduction to Sociology and Cultural Anthropology and advanced courses in topics including Family, Race, Gender, and Religion as well as other areas of specialization. The position will also serve as the coordinator and advisor for the Sociology programâ™s Pre-Ministry Concentration. The applicant will be expected to participate in program development, advising, recruiting, and assessment. The applicant will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda and to serve the department and the university as required (see the Tarleton State University Handbook for Faculty and Administrative Staff available at www.tarleton.edu).

60% Teaching: Develop, implement and review effective teaching/learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology and other tools Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect the current levels of knowledge in the discipline; Exhibit willingness to work in partnership with immediate supervisor through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify professional development activities which will lead to effective student learning outcomes.
30% Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity: Demonstrate a record of career long evidence of significant scholarly contributions to the profession; Demonstrate through teaching, research and service a substantial command of their field of expertise.
10% Service: Exhibit a mature view of your discipline; Maintain an appropriate schedule of office hours for student access and inquiry; Work in partnership with student success personnel on student advising, orientation; Participate in institutional service roles such as but not limited to, college committees, club sponsorships, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.
Required Education/Experience: Earned Ph.D. in Sociology (degree must be in hand by time of appointment, September 1, 2018); Program experience including curriculum development, recruiting, assessment, and advising. Teaching experience in Gender, Family and Religion.
Preferred Education/Experience: Secondary teaching areas in Social Psychology, Methods and Statistics, and Race.
