45% Direct band and teaching: Direct band program and teach private studio and other courses as required. Duties include conducting wind ensembles; teaching band techniques, conducting courses, and/or applied lessons in area of expertise. Develop, implement, and review effective teaching and learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology and other tools; Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect the current levels of knowledge in discipline. Developing a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning including course competency expectations and student learning outcome measures. Work in partnership with their immediate supervisor and Chief Academic Office through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses in the instructional process and to identify professional development activities which will lead to effective student learning. Maintain an appropriate schedule to all for student access and inquiry.
25% Service: Assisting with recruitment/program administration. Work in partnership with student success personnel on student advising and orientation. Participate in necessary institutional function such as, but not limited to, college committees, club sponsorship, facilitation of advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.
25% Research/Creative Activities: Demonstrate a record of on-going scholarly/creative activity and professional service. Remain current in respective field of expertise.
5% Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience: Earned Doctorate in Music Required (ABDstatus may be considered as long asALLdegree requirements and award ofDMA/PHDoccurs before time of appointment). Significant experience leading an instrumental department; Knowledge of band repertoire at the university level; record of excellence in teaching at the high school and/or university level; evidence of strong leadership and recruiting abilities required.
Preferred Education/Experience: Minimum 3 years college teaching experience in the area of Wind Conducting. Candidates with a secondary area, certification, or experience in the area of Music Education will be strongly considered.
