The Library Learning Commons (LLC) Assistant works in partnership with, and at the direction of, the Library Learning Commons Director to implement the curriculum with Kindergarten-8th grade students, provide supervision, and maintain the library. This is a full time position and lasts the duration of the school year.
The LLC Assistant position is an extraordinary opportunity for a responsible, organized, detail-oriented person who enjoys working with children. Experience with technology
Experience working with children, preferably in a classroom or library setting
Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, contemporary children’s and young adult literature
The following skills, knowledge, and abilities may enhance an applicant’s candidacy.
Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS)
Familiarity with library processes and systems
Experience with intellectually gifted children
Experience working with and being part of a diverse community
Maintain cordial, flexible, and professional relationships with colleagues and parents
Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Provide library services to the student, teacher, and parent communities
Maintain a library environment that is welcoming and inclusive to our diverse families and staff
Build students’ confidence and self-esteem as you come to know them as learners and individuals
Practice and model respect for individual differences, learning styles and rates of learning
Encourage the development of shared community values, such as honesty, kindness and respect
Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
Supervising students in the library during recess and breaks
Running story times, teaching information literacy skills, and checking out materials
Administrative assistance and clerical tasks including photocopying, mounting displays, reconciling the budget, updating databases and spreadsheets, delivering materials to classrooms, processing new books, setting up for and tidying after classes, and other tasks as assigned
Offering support with database and e-book access and other forms of technology
Communicating with and assisting teachers and parent volunteers
Supervising middle school study hall, held in the LLC each afternoon
Hours: 40 hours per week, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a non-exempt position that is eligible for overtime pay
Rate of Pay: $18-20 per hour, depending upon experience
