Reporting to the Multimodal Learning Librarian, this position is responsible for the management and administration of the Multimedia Lab in Lamont Library, including a team of student assistants that assist all lab users. This position interviews, hires, trains and supervises a team of student assistants to provide help and basic problem-solving assistance with multimedia equipment and software available to users in the Lamont Media Lab and in the Cabot Science Library Media Studios. The student team is comprised of about 20 staff members covering 90 hours/week in the Lamont Media Lab and 50 hours/week concurrently in the Cabot Science Library with Media Studio support.
As part of the Media Services team, the Multimedia Specialist instructs students and staff on the principles of media tools and authorship with media, assists them with projects of sophisticated technical composition, andmay produce similar materials on behalf of the Library. This position is responsible for connecting users to media and multimedia collections of Harvard University in order to promote and advance scholarship. Through these activities, this position promotes the development of media literacy throughout the Harvard community. The position also collaborates with library colleagues, teaching faculty, teaching fellows, academic administrators and the FAS Academic Technology Group to integrate opportunities for students to discover, critically evaluate, and ethically use multimedia in diverse formats in their curricular work.

Oversees the Multimedia Lab in Lamont and support of the Media Studios in the Cabot Science Library:
Supervises a team of student assistants who providefront line assistance to Multimedia Lab users on the authoring of multimedia projects, use of the Lamont Library Media Lab and with use of the Media Studios in the Cabot Science Library. Hires and trains students as needed. Coordinates with other members of the Media Services unit and with members of the Cabot Science Library staff to delegate unitor training projects to the students, and assists in overseeing the completion of those projects. Serves as a backup to student Multimedia Lab coverage, as needed.
Provides front line support of the equipment comprising the Multimedia Lab: computers, peripherals, software, and is backed up by the Multimodal Learning Librarian, Harvard University Information Technology and library IT groups. Provides backup support and troubleshooting for the Media Studios and computers in the Cabot Science Library.
In collaboration with other departments, manages access to loanable cameras, microphones, green screens, and other multimedia equipment in Lamont Library. This position also oversees training needs in the use of the loanable equipment.
Assesses workflows, equipment, services, and the user experience of the Multimedia Lab and library services; makes recommendations for improvement to the Multimedia Librarian.
Keeping aware of current trends, makes purchasing recommendations to the Multimedia Librarian for equipment, software and hardware.
Provides training on Lab uses and technologies.
Works with the Design and Multimedia Specialist to manage Lab web presence, including creating and updating sections.
Administers statistics for the Media Services department.
Oversees the creation and maintenance of necessary documentation of the Lab and related computing stations with authoring software throughout the Lamont Library, including procedures, inventory, and detailed troubleshooting guides. May assist with documentation and signage for Cabot media spaces, as well.

Maintains current awareness of developing trends in multimedia research, teaching, and learning. Adopts new findings as appropriate and keeps staff and patrons updated. Is familiar with the collaborative Learning Spaces equipment in Lamont Library for instruction and backup with technical assistance.
Participates in service to the Library and the University. Serves on working groups and committees as appropriate.
May support the Multimodal Learning Librarian by participating in unit projects, such as the creation of instructional media, video production and editing.
May lead workshops for students and staff relating to authoring and library resources across different modes of leaning and forms of content, customizing them to the audience as needed.

Bachelor'sdegree or equivalentunderstanding of the research process, libraries, and the academic environment
2+ years of experience leading media production or post-production projects
Degree in library science, IT, or equivalent
Knowledge of computer science, including basic web production, troubleshooting, hardware installation, networking, and user profiles, especially on Mac computers.
