The College of Science & Mathematics and School of Health Professions at Rowan University invites applications for Lecturers, which are full-time, non-tenure track faculty teaching positions, to begin Fall 2018. We seek candidates who are passionate about teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate level. In addition to teaching responsibilities, successful candidates will be required to make meaningful and substantive service contributions to undergraduate and/or graduate programs, and to their department. Successful candidates will also be expected to participate in professional development to stay current in their content area and in evidence-based instructional approaches.
Lecturers are 10 month positions, and successful candidates will teach a total of 24 credits over two semesters, with the option to teach overload and the possibility of teaching summer classes for additional compensation. While these are non-tenure track positions, they are renewable, with expectations for continuing renewal of two, three, four, and then five years per contract. In addition, the position has a promotion path to Senior Lecturer and Master Lecturer, and includes benefits.
The Chemistry and Biochemistry department adheres to the mission of the College, and offers high quality programs including a BS in Chemistry (ACS accredited), a BS in Biochemistry (ASBMB accredited), a BA in Chemistry, an MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and several accelerated BS/MS in programs combining our degree paths.
The teaching assignments for the lecturer in chemistry will primarily include freshman and sophomore level courses in chemistry based on the qualifications/expertise of the applicant and programmatic needs. Applicants with experience in teaching General Chemistry are especially encouraged to apply. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to serve on department, college, and/or university-level committees; alumni outreach; serve as an advisor to students and student organizations; coordinate courses and labs in the program; and assist with curriculum development.
A master's degree or higher in Chemistry, or closely related discipline, is required (PhD preferred)
Background experience / specialization in one of the sub-field’s of chemistry is preferred
Prior teaching and student advising experience are required
Experience with student and alumni outreach is highly desired
Experience with outreach to underrepresented groups in STEM is also highly desired
Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills are required
Teach courses as determined by programmatic needs and based on individual expertise
Serve on department, college, and/or university-level committees
Participate in departmental service responsibilities such as:
Lead/participate in various student-centric programs such as the Learning Assistant program, Peer Mentoring and co-op/internship programs
Coordinate courses and labs in the freshman and/or sophomore chemistry sequences, including adjunct and teaching assistant training
Coordinate alumni outreach
Advise for student organizations
Assist with curricular development
Perform other duties at the discretion of the department
