The Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), invites applications from qualified individuals for a tenure-track position in Computational Materials Science / Renewable Energy Storage, subject to approval by the relevant authorities.
Starting date: December 1, 2018, or as agreed upon with the University.
Duties: The successful candidate will be engaged in teaching, research, and service to the community, and will provide pedagogical direction.
A PhD in Physics with related postdoctoral experience. Expertise in ab initio simulation methods, quantum chemistry calculations, scientific programming.
Digital methods in computational physics and chemistry play an increasingly important role in industry and research as high performance computing resources become more and more accessible, resulting in wide use of high-performance commercial software to design new materials for commercial applications. The successful candidate will have an established expertise to use and develop ab initio simulation methods based on quantum mechanics to calculate the physical and chemical properties of materials.
It is expected that the candidate will have relevant expertise in the following fields: the development of bidimensional nanostructures (hybrid or other) and of catalytic processes for new energy applications, renewable energy storage (batteries, supercapacitators), energy storage through solar fuels via photochemical production, and solid state storage of hydrogen and methane.
The Department expects the candidate to have expertise in the utilization, development and implementation of algorithms for the ab initio calculation of physical and chemical properties, such as the density functional theory (DFT), Møller-Plesset and Hartree-Fock methods. Proficiency with statistical physics simulation tools (Monte Carlo, Molecular Dynamics) would be considered an asset.
This position will consolidate the Computer Physics program and strengthen the Department’s teaching resources in the fields of Computational Physics and Chemistry. The candidate should be proficient with high-performance computing.
It is expected that the candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of chemists, physicists and engineers working in the field of short-, medium- and long-term renewable energy storage.
She or he must be able to teach at all levels, and will be required to supervise master’s degree and PhD students. He or she will ethically manage a research team and ensure its financial support through research grants or sponsorships from appropriate funding organizations, industry partners and government agencies.
We will also consider applications from candidates specializing in Big data in the fields of hybrid materials designed for energy applications and high-throughput materials screening through numerical simulations to identify optimal materials based on performance objectives.
University teaching experience will be considered an asset.
Note that exceptional candidates in the field of Computational Physics will be considered.
Knowledge of French is required for this position.
