University at Buffalo seeks a qualified individual for the position of Data Analyst, supervised by the Director of Assessment and Evaluation within the Division of Student Life. Candidates must have working knowledge of relational database concepts, demonstrated experience working with data, spreadsheets, and data visualization tools, knowledge of research and assessment methods, and a broad comprehension of the higher education landscape and its challenges. This position requires a proactive, creative individual with a keen eye for detail who can manage multiple projects with competing time demands, develop concise and clear reports, and communicate and interact with various constituencies with varying levels of data comprehension.
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization (mathematics, statistics, computer science, education, psychology, sociology, or research methodology)
Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience.
Strong understanding and application of SQL programming language to construct queries against relational databases.
Experience collecting, managing, and reporting data.
Ability to use software to organize, analyze, and visualize information and communicate finings.
Outstanding communication skills.
Basic knowledge of assessment methods.
Basic knowledge of higher education and its challenges.
Ability to work independently to assess an inquiry, prioritize workload, and formulate timely responses to constituents.
High degree of attention to detail and work quality.
Demonstrated ability to maintain highest level of data security and confidentiality.
Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization
Higher education experience with programmatic and learning outcomes assessment.
Knowledge of data management concepts, tools, issues and environments such as database application development/SQL programming, data/statistical analysis, and model development.
Experience with programming and visualization tools such as Microsoft Office (Access, Excel), SQL Server, Tableau, etc.
