General purpose: The Digital Textile Printer Technician assists students with all aspects of the printing/steaming process while maintaining the surrounding area, recording financial transactions and communicating with the Fiber Department Studio Manager during scheduled hours.
Summary of Essential Functions:
The Digital Textile Printer Technician is responsible for monitoring and cleaning the following areas, pieces of equipment and software: 3rd Floor Art Tech Center area surrounding the printer, the storage lockers and table space, metal storage shelves, Mimaki TX2, Jacquard SteamJet and Ergosoft TexPrint.
Provides customer service and information to students and faculty who have gained access to the printer.
Documents and communicates all printer malfunctions, file corruptions, software errors and obstacles to the Fiber Department Studio Manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: • Creating, updating and monitoring inventory lists, contact lists, and sign-up sheets in consultation of the Fiber Department Studio Manager • Routinely performs test draws and info prints to document the current status of the printer by dating and storing them in the portfolio provided. • Updates and monitors an access list of students, faculty and staff who have gained access to the printer. • Uploading files provided by students, faculty and staff to TexPrint software and confirming that the file is suitable for printing on the fabric provided. • Operating the printer, loading the fabric, monitoring the print process and finally steaming the fabric. • Verifying that the fabric provided by the student, faculty or staff member meets the qualifications established by the MICA Fiber Dept. • Maintaining the supplies, tools and fabric stored in the lockers under the table by creating a comprehensive system of organization. • Monitoring ink inventory, requesting expired inks be restocked, replacing and disposing of expired inks both in storage and in use. • Recording the levels of ink cartridges in use, as well as their expiration dates and the expiration dates of the cartridges in storage
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator • Knowledge of Mac and PC operating systems • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google drive • Basic knowledge of file conversion and image file formats • Ability to problem solve and provide excellent customer service • Excellent time management, organizational and communication skills • Excellent attention to detail and data entry skills • Knowledge of pattern drafting • Experience with MX and acid dyes
Minimum qualifications: • Experience with Macs, PCs • Experience with and knowledge of Adobe Photoshop • Excellent customer service skills • Proven data entry skills
Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Excel and Google Drive. • Familiarity with fools and functions listed above and repeat pattern processes. • Experience with flat pattern drafting, graphic design, MX reactive and acid dyes. • Experience working as an AV/IT/TSS technician is a plus • Experience working in Higher Education
