The Brighton Center for Specialty Care is the newest University of Michigan Ambulatory Care facility dedicated to providing high quality health care services for adults and children. The brand new 2-story facility is located at 7500 Challis Rd. Brighton, MI. We are actively seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient-focused individuals who will share in the goal of crafting the ideal experience for our patients, families and employees.
You will perform the assigned duties in specimen Procurement in order to assure accurate and timely collection, order entry, transport, processing, and storage of specimens.
You will provide total customer focus to meet the needs of every customer, internal and external, medical staff, laboratory staff, patients and families.
Performing phlebotomy on adult, pediatric, and newborn patients is part of your daily routine. You will obtain blood specimens from patients with alternate venous access devices.
You will transport, label, centrifuge, aliquot, distribute, store, and prepare laboratory specimens for testing within Pathology Department and reference laboratories.
You will enter laboratory test orders and results into the Laboratory Information System.
You will complete POC laboratory analysis and quality control.
You will be a part of a team that works effectively together to accomplish goals.
By modeling professional behaviors your partnership with other medical staff will increase.
Your assistance with special projects, in-services, evaluating new equipment and techniques, monitor laboratory inventory, and other additional assigned responsibilities will be fundamental.
You will assist Allied Health Technical Coordinator and Training Coordinator as a preceptor for training new employees.
You will participate in continued Quality initiative.
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
A minimum of 1 year of experience in phlebotomy is required for the Specialist level.
Knowledge of computer applications is desirable.
Reasonable knowledge of hospital policies and procedures is desirable.
Certification or registration in an appropriate discipline is desirable.
Considerable experience in phlebotomy or laboratory services is preferred.
Indwelling and pediatric experience a plus.
Port draw experience is highly desired.
The facility is open 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Saturday. We are flexible in scheduling, and request that you are also flexible in working various shifts.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
