The University of Washington - School of Dentistry has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Registered Nurse 2 (RN2).
The RN2 will provide primary care and coordination of services through assessment, diagnosis, planning and implementation and evaluation of safe, therapeutic care, for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) Department at Sand Point. Partnering with OMS faculty, and managing the day-to-day clinic operations, the RN2 will provide oversight and identify the distribution of staff resources to accomplish clinic goals. This position is identified as the clinic point person, and will collaborate with department management to determine future leadership roles within the clinic.
The successful candidate needs strong PIV skills and excellent ability to multi task. This position will be tasked with developing process improvement methods that have an impact to: faculty, residents, dental students, staff, operations, and administration. The RN2 will be an active contributor, or facilitate, in strategy meetings with: department leadership, School of Dentistry Deans office, interdepartmental, facilities, vendors and external entities that have associations with OMS.
RESPONSIBILITIES are, but not limited to:
Prepare medications for the procedure.
Assist with admitting patients to the operating suite.
Administer conscious sedation i.e. Demerol, versed, fentanyl IV push. Will also monitor patients receiving propofol.
Pre and post procedural care for sedation patients including vital sign monitoring, assessing cognitive skills and alerting attending staff of complications.
Assume responsibility for complete documentation of patient records to the administering of sedation Document patient information in the EHR.
Provide post op instructions and follow up.
Assess side effects of treatment and identify additional health problems that may require medical attention.
Count and store all conscious sedation medications. Accountable for all controlled substances used for conscious sedation.
Responsible for making sure the equipment is available as needed, ensuring safety and adequate supply. The equipment must be inspected fully at the beginning of each day of use.
Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington.
Current BLS and ACLS certification required.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Excellent skills in IV placement.
Team player, problem solver, and a commitment to providing patient-centered high-quality care.
2 years' experience working in an ICU, ED or Post Anesthesia recovery unit.
ICU experience or ED with significant exposure to IV sedation.
