To provide departmental support in research and teaching missions and to support the mission and goals of the department, School of Engineering, and university.
1.Teaching : The faculty member will be required to teach courses within the Biomedical Engineering curriculum and to mentor students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Courses will include undergraduate and/or graduate Biomedical Engineering courses as well as courses in the ENGR curriculum (as appropriate).
2.Research : Faculty at the Assistant Professor rank will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, as appropriate, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department and the School of Engineering. Senior level faculty (Associate/Professor), will be required to have a well-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications and external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise in the department. Collaborative research and scholarly activity with the medical campus and its associated Schools is required as well as with the VCU Hospitals (as appropriate). In addition, we are especially interested in candidates who can apply convergent approaches to all areas of faculty research within the department including but not limited to bioimaging, biomaterials, biomechanics, computational medicine, instrumentation, mechanobiology, regenerative medicine, rehabilitation and human factors engineering.
3.Service : The faculty member will be involved with service activities for the department, the School, the University, and for professional and scientific organizations. The faculty member will also be involved with outreach efforts to the local community.
4.Clinical : As appropriate, the faculty member will be involved with collaborative activities in scholarship and service with clinical scientists primarily in the VCU Hospitals and the School of Medicine.
PhD in Biomedical Engineering or related discipline and evidence of scholarly activity via publications and/or research activity, which expands and complements existing expertise in the department.
Expected to develop and maintain funded, nationally recognized research programs, and should have a substantial, established record of publication and external funding.
