METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY, a vibrant and growing public, urban university, is seeking applicants for the position of Dean in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. This is a full-time, position within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS). This Dean is charged with the leadership of the college to meet the strategic needs of the university and CNHS students, faculty, staff, and community partners. The Dean is the chief administrative officer for the college and as such s/he is responsible for the planning, organization, development, implementation, assessment, and direction of all aspects of the college. Specific responsibilities of the position include strategic planning, program evaluation and development, specialized accreditation, community outreach, fund raising, recruitment and selection of faculty and staff, building and fostering cooperative relationships, and managing college finances and budget. The Dean provides vision and direction for college programming, the development of resources, and provision of services that meet the scholarly and intellectual needs of the college and university community. S/he is directly responsible for the supervision and evaluation of CNHS faculty based on their professional development plans and reports, and carries out activities related to promotion and tenure. In addition, s/he must develop effective collaboration with two-year partner institutions and health care organizations. The Dean works closely with other university officers to advance the overall priorities and strategies of the university.

Develop, recommend, implement, and evaluate high quality innovative academic programs for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.Promote the college's educational and research activities. Coordinates the overall assessment and evaluation of the college's programs.
Provide leadership and supervision that emphasizes commitment and sensitivity to diversity in the recruitment, hiring, promotion, tenure, evaluation, and professional development of faculty and staff of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.Directs the work of faculty and staff, including the approval of faculty assignments and staff position descriptions, training, and orientation of new employees, approval and/or critique of work and performance, and approval of time records and leave requests.
Enhance and inspire an academic climate that promotes excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.Create an environment of mutual respect that supports a socially responsible community, enhances cultural diversity, and inspires others to work toward common goals.
Develop and strengthen cooperative arrangements with other institutions to expand and improve services to the university faculty, students, and the broader community.
Participate in university planning, policy-making, and executive leadership.
Provide leadership for program development and implementation; student learning assessment; program evaluation and assessment; external shareholders and community partnerships; and budgets.
Manage complex tasks and adapt to changing institutional priorities using a collaborative and collegial work style.
Provide leadership for college specialized accreditation activities (e.g. CCNE, CODA, or others).
Provide consultation for handling personnel problems, responding to employee complaints, and grievances, and addressing unusual situations.
Support involvement and contributions by faculty, staff, and students to encourage a dynamic professional/scholarship development program in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Promote a culture of engagement, inclusion, and innovation.
Supervise and promote professional development of faculty and staff.
Develop, review, and approve all college program planning, budgets and fiscal plans, and implement plans within the approved budget framework.
Provide leadership in assuring a hospitable environment for a diverse student population and community stakeholders.
Maintain an educational environment which support the interests and needs of underrepresented groups.
Represent the university within the academic community and in professionally related activities of the local, state, regional, and national levels, and build relationships with organizations to support the work of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Serve on the Provost's Academic and Student Affairs Executive Council (ASAeC) and the President's Cabinet.
Identify, cultivate, involve, and solicit the community, alumni, and friends of the university in developing and sustaining an active external fundraising program.
Education: A doctorate or terminal degree in a health sciences field from an accredited higher education institution (nursing, dental hygiene, or related field).
Minimum 5 years of faculty experience in a higher education setting.
Minimum 3 years of administrative experience as a dean, coordinator, director, or department chair.
Previous supervisory experience.
Excellent communication skills (written & oral) to interact with a variety of persons and groups.
Experience with specialized accreditation in a higher education setting.
History of working collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty in a team environment.
A demonstrated commitment to the mission of an urban university.
A demonstrated commitment to diversity (cultural, ethnic, gender, etc.), affirmative action and equal opportunity.
Experience with nontraditional students.
Experience with innovative nursing and health science programs, approaches, or modes of delivery.
Experience with continuing quality improvement and/or organizational development.
Administrative leadership experience in a collectively bargained higher education institution.

Salary: This Administrator positon is assigned to a Range 10, as outlined in the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Personnel Plan for Administrators (see link below), and is commensurate with education and experience.
