Access Services Night Supervisor - Libraries 07213
West Virginia University Libraries invites applications for an Access Services Night Supervisor. This position supervises late night Access Services Department operations Sunday through Thursday alongside another late night staff person. This position is one of only two library staff members in the building at night. The Access Services Night Supervisor will oversee supervision of student assistants and circulation of all materials including Reserve, ILL & E-ZBorrow, laptops, etc., as well as closing procedures for the building.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Assist with monitoring and supervising all Downtown Campus Library Access Services circulation and reserve desk functions and transactions.
Oversee and manage all circulation transactions during assigned desk shifts. Uses the WorldCat Management System (WMS) for charging/discharging library and the ILLiad system for charging/discharging Interlibrary Loan materials.
Be expected to handle all situations that arise at the Service Desk, including patron inquiries and complaints; creating or editing user records in WMS; instructing or assisting users in making requests for items using E-ZBorrow, Book Express+, or ILLiad, etc.
Supervise 1-5 student workers who are scheduled for each shift in the evening as they assist at the desk or handle revision and shelving; assists with student training.
Work closely with an Officer from the Department of Public Safety during the late night hours to report suspicious persons or problems.
Work with the Stacks Maintenance Supervisor and the One Desk Coordinator to ensure that student employees are working well and performing required tasks, and evaluates all night students and provides input on the evaluations of all other students in the department.
Provide assistance to the interlibrary loan staff if there is a backlog of requests from the day time. Assists with borrowing and lending transactions between the Downtown Campus Library and other libraries around the country and world.
Pay Grade: 14
Work Hours: Sunday through Thursday from 6:15 pm - 2:15 am during the regular semesters. During Dead/Finals Week, schedule will be adjusted to cover the 24-hour library opening times
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and related experience working in a library
At least six (6) months library, library operations, or computer experience
Demonstrated public/customer service experience
Security experience, such as dorm security, preferred but not required
Ability to deal with problem patrons or other situations that may occur when incumbent is in charge
Basic understanding of library operations
Good computer skills, especially laptops and wireless connections, are helpful
Ability to learn library software such as WMS, ILLiad and E-ZBorrow, and Libraries' online catalog
Excellent oral and written skills as well as interpersonal and supervisory skills
Ability to operate and maintain basic office and library equipment
Physical demands include the ability to:
Push or pull heavy book trucks (up to 100 lbs.)
Carry stacks of books (up to 30 lbs.)
