Under general direction of the Program Director, the Patient Care Navigator is a professional and technical leader that will oversee patient care matters at the CIRM UC Davis Alpha Stem Cell Clinic. The incumbent convenes, engages, and directs patient care staff of all levels and disciplines. Participates in related task forces and oversees and implements all tasks related to patient care functions that are necessary to support the client centered clinical focus of patient care and to contribute to the comprehensive health care of people. The incumbent serves as subject-matter expert in clinical care to ensure the delivery of quality stem cell therapies within the Alpha Stem Cell Clinic within the CTSC Cypress Clinic. The position will partner with faculty, department leadership, and other stakeholders to report project progress and troubleshoot barriers. It will be required to serve as a liaison with the community, industry sponsors, and professional groups to help determine the need, relevance, and effectiveness of Alpha Stem Cell Clinic patient care. Develops presentations and trains patient care staff.REQUIRED-Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field. -At least 5 years of experience in the field of FDA/IND clinical stem cell procurement and potential stem cell therapies, with at least one year of clinical research concentration.-Extensive experience with industry sponsored and investigator initiated Clinical Trials (including interacting with sponsors).-Advanced knowledge of UC Davis clinical care/nursing policies, HIPAA requirements, IRB compliance, JCAHO regulations and federal guidelines for human research procedures.-Experience educating staff in the research process.-Experience in recognizing adverse events and reporting.-Experience collaborating with medical and scientific investigators.-Project management experience. PREFERRED-Experience conducting study procedures as Patient Care Coordinator of complicated clinical trials. -Experience creating and analyzing projections and providing status reports for clinical research programs. -Strong knowledge of and skill in use of established protocols and ability to identify and help to establish new protocols as indicated. -Proven knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, procedures used in stem cell clinical trials.-Familiarity with surgical nursing, immuno-compromised patients, working with code teams, and ER procedures. -Knowledge of the Patient Bill of Rights in order to effectively assist patients and assume an advocacy role.-Skill in telephone interviewing of patients to efficiently elicit accurate medical history.-Experience in Phase One Clinical Trials.-Knowledge of patient education resources at UC Davis Medical Center and in the community.-Knowledge of UCD Medical Center clinical and ancillary services.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
