The Director of Accounting & Financial Reporting manages the day-to-day operation of a variety of general accounting & financial reporting functions. Responsibilities include overseeing numerous general ledger reconciliations, internal & external financial reporting functions, recording of Student Account cashiering sessions & various other accounting transactions & accruals, the review or recommendation of & compliance with various fiscal policies & procedures, coordination of the annual audit, & hiring, management, & evaluation of staff members through subordinate accounting managers.
Direct daily operations of General Ledger, student refunds, general accounting, & financial reporting. Maintain chart of accounts, trial balance, etc.
Assist in hiring & staff evaluation; delegate responsibilities, manage workflow, provide direction & instruction to staff. Must have strong management & interpersonal skills as well as the ability build consensus with a wide variety of constituents.
Oversee posting of MMARS activity including payroll expenses, state receivables, etc. Manage fund activity & reconciliation of MMARS appropriations to internal Banner accounting system.
Approve accurate & timely processing of all transactions in compliance with all oversight policies.
Manage GL recording & reconciliation of all Student Accounts Receivables / Refunding, federal, state, & other Financial Aid, deferred revenue, accrued liabilities, etc., & related accounting records & reports.
Direct reconciliation of tuition & fee income & remittance of Day & Out-of-State Tuition.
Assist &/or oversee timely preparation &/or review of various reports for the Dept. of Higher Ed & other internal / external constituents or oversight agencies (including FSU financial statements, IPEDS, HEIRS, HE 1 - 4, etc.).
Coordinate annual & other audits including preparation of year-end accounting entries, reconciliations, & schedules. Performs fiscal year end closing procedures & maintains closing schedules. Develops & oversees coordination of & adherence to common closing schedules affecting multiple departments.
Maintain Banner Approval Queues & FOMPROF; Assist in MMARS Security Officer responsibilities including User Access & Security Administration; review & recommend approval of requests; reset passwords in various systems.
Maintain a standard of superior service to all customers; fosters positive relationships & works collaboratively with faculty, staff, & students.
Must be well-organized, flexible & able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Perform other duties & participate in various campus committees as assigned by the Assistant Vice President and Finance & Business Services.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required;
At least ten (10) years of full time professional experience in an accounting-related area, of which at least the last three (3) years have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity;
Extensive working knowledge of computerized accounting / general ledger related applications;
Demonstrated success with & commitment to exceptional customer student service;
Ability to work effectively with professional, non-professional, student personnel &/or various outside agencies in a friendly manner;
Ability to clearly & effectively express self in written & oral communication;
Master's degree in a related field, CGA, or CPA preferred.
Financial management experience in a MA Higher Education institution.
Strong experience with Banner accounting system & system report writers; Knowledge of Argos Reports.
Knowledge of student accounts, student financial services & public Higher Ed principles, policies, & procedures.
Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel, Access, & other Office Suite programs.
Experience with the Commonwealth's Accounting System (MMARS).
Ability to function independently with a minimum of supervision, but willingness to receive & respond to direction.
Knowledge of & demonstrable experience in all facets of the position as described in the job description.
This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the APA bargaining unit The work schedule is Monday- Friday, 8:45am-5:00pm. Salary range is $85,000 to $100,000 commensurate with education and experience.
