The Supervisor will be expected to do minor technical consulting and training several times throughout the semester. This position will require a significant number of evening and weekend hours. The lab supervisor should have effective communication skills to deal with customer support issues as well as student supervision. Supervision received: daily supervision by Lab Manager. Supervision exercised: daily supervision of 25 or more Lab Assistants.
Duties and Responsibilities: Supervises, trains, and coordinates scheduling of lab assistants. Maintains control of computer labs under strict guidelines set forth by the department. Supervises student use of computing equipment and ensures that lab guidelines are followed; develops instructional materials for the use of lab hardware and software. Assists patrons with software and hardware inquiries and use of printers Provides user, software, and hardware assistance with university supported applications Performs periodic backups of network services, troubleshoots and repairs lab network problems, and notifies technician of inoperative equipment. Administers lab computer networks, maintains printers, supplies, and queues. Gathers usage statistics and prepares reports. Assists with inventory control. Responds to e-mail, telephone calls, and provides general information about the lab. Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems. Complies with all University and department policies. Provides students, staff, instructors and the public with information relating to the computer laboratory both over the phone and in person. Maintains records of activities undertaken in support of the computer lab. Develops and prepares reports from statistical database. Prepares flyers and organizes open houses to promote and market the computer labs. Prepares and conducts classroom presentations. Maintains web pages for computer labs.
Supervise Lab Assistants Manage employee absences, substitute coverage, and lab announcement postings. Schedule/change employee hours. Explain departmental functions. Verify and submit Lab Assistant time cards to Payroll. Maintain the absence and late records of all Lab Assistants. Schedule Lab Assistant meetings. Evaluate all FWS and CWAT students. Review applications and interview candidates. Hire and orient new Lab Assistants.
Provide preliminary technical consulting Assist users and Lab Assistants with basic software issues in the lab environment. Train the Lab Assistants on procedures of operation for the departmental labs. Instruct the Lab Assistants on the basic principles of the commonly used computer applications.

Oversee Computer Labs operations and other duties as assigned Inventory computer equipment in labs. Ensure adequate supply of paper, toner, and ink cartridges. Inventory paper, toner, and ink cartridges to ensure timely ordering of needed supplies (coordinate with office manager) Provide print queue management. Report computer damage or malfunctions Assist in virus protection. Use of the ITS ITSM tool to update trouble tickets or requests Contribute to creating new procedural documentations and updating the old Complete other duties as assigned by the director or lab manager.
Qualifications: Associates degree from two-year college or technical school and two years related experience per duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated Knowledge of: Computer equipment and related software; recordkeeping procedures. Demonstrated Ability to: Provide assistance and problem solve a variety of basic computer related issues; enforce policies and procedures and maintain a positive customer service environment.
Knowledge and experience with Windows OS; familiarity with Mac operating environment. Knowledge of commonly used computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Adobe and web browsers.
An interest and willingness to learn new computer applications.
Ability to work well under pressure. Capable of working with strict time deadlines. Ability to motivate Lab Assistants. Skills to interact effectively and professionally with lab users, Lab Assistants, and departmental personnel.
Flexibility to work days, evenings, and weekends. Background check: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
