he Division of Integrated Health & Policy Research (IHPR) at the University of South Carolina/Institute for Families in Society is seeking a GIS Analyst – Cartographic Design Specialist. This position will support GIS/cartographic capabilities by creating complex final map products supporting health systems, services, and policy-related projects using ArcGIS in a fast-paced, applied research environment. This position will be responsible for IHPR's mapping product design and implementation and will work with Senior GIS staff to create conceptualized products and standardized mapping templates. Other product development and responsibilities include the creation of tables, reports, posters, and documentation. GIS Analyst – Cartographic Design Specialist will be a member of a GIS unit using the latest ESRI software (ArcGIS Desktop, Server, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online) and ancillary tools (Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Excel, Access, Internet-based data sources, SQL Server). This position is established in support of expanded research activities and projects.
Advertised Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in geography or related field and 2 years related GIS experience, or an associates degree in geography or related field and 4 years GIS related experience.
Converts map data into geographic information system (GIS) software-specific products;
Proven ability to conceptualize and complete complex projects with thorough documentation and demonstration of applied logic;
Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS 10.1 or higher as well as knowledge of cartography including design principles and understanding map creation procedures in ArcGIS;
Demonstrated ability of data transfer, data analysis, data mining, and data management using basic spreadsheet applications (e.g., Excel, Access, ArcGIS attribute tables);
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, project leader, and co-workers both orally and in writing;
Attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively; and
Ability to pivot effectively to various GIS tasks to meet project needs.
