The Advising Center in the Physics Department serves the needs of undergraduate students. We are seeking a team member to assist with meeting these needs. The Undergraduate Advisor's primary responsibilities will be:
Management of course timetable
Maintenance of classroom operating schedules
Submission of grade changes for faculty and instructors
Assistance with student course registration issues, such as processing overload requests, change of major and force-add, research and independent study forms
Conduct information Sessions for prospective students
Management of bulletin boards
Other administrative support as needed, including responding to telephone and email inquiries, assisting students and faculty to access various support resources, and submitting updates for website when required
Administrative and/or academic support experience
Experience with software such as Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel
Experience with event planning
Ability to work both independently and as a team
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work comfortably with all individuals in a diverse, multicultural environment
Ability to use discretion in working with confidential information
Strong organizational and problem solving skills
Desire to work with students, faculty, and staff
Ability to manage student and visitor traffic
Working knowledge of Virginia Tech academic/advising policies and procedures
Experience with BANNER, Hokie SPA, Banner Document Management and Student Success Collaborative
Experience with social media such as Facebook and twitter
