The International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) is a center in the University of Washington's Department of Global Health that works in partnership with the University of California, San Francisco. I-TECH has projects in more than 20 countries, and its worldwide staff work with local ministries of health, universities, non-governmental organizations, medical facilities, and other partners to support efficient, well-ordered health care systems that provide high quality care to all citizens.
I-TECH has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Communications Specialist. I-TECH's Communications Team works in close collaboration with members of the I-TECH Management Team, faculty, and program staff to share the center's successes and achievements with the university, partners, and funders. The team also supports a wide array of internal communication needs and consults with staff from around the globe on health outreach strategies for underserved populations.
I-TECH has an opening for a full-time (100%) Communications Specialist to support both external and internal communications activities. This position will report to the Communications Manager and complete the following duties:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Facilitate internal communications activities for I-TECH
Facilitate processes related to I-TECH intranet, including editing and creating content for I-TECH's intranet; organizing information based on organizational feedback; advising staff on intranet architecture; and providing intranet access
Edit content for internal communications materials
Develop and implement management processes for media and photo database
Administer and provide access to general I-TECH mailing lists
Compile, edit, and disseminate I-TECH's monthly internal newsletter
Create, edit, and post public website content via WordPress, in collaboration with the Communications Manager; develop quarterly analytics reports
Research, write, edit, and publish web and print articles on I-TECH activities and milestones worldwide, in collaboration with the Communications Manager
Maintain editorial calendar for I-TECH's public website
Grow I-TECH's social media presence; contribute to UW Department of Global Health social media channels
Assess additional external communications options, such as a public-facing e-newsletter
Edit content for promotional materials
Implement intermediate-level design projects, as needed (PowerPoint, InDesign, Illustrator)
Manage general I-TECH information e-mail account
Provide outreach to Global Health students in activities such as Career Fair, etc.
Support pre-award strategy development and knowledge management
Create corporate capability statements and maintain annotated library for future business development needs, in collaboration with the Communications Manager
Provide writing and editing support for concept notes and project narratives, in collaboration with Communications Manager
Design visual elements of proposals, including flow charts, org charts, and any other needed graphics (PowerPoint, InDesign, Illustrator)
Manage Document and Media Production
Engage vendors, including printers, designers, editors, and photographers, in collaboration with Communications Manager
Provide reproduction-ready art to vendors
Manage timelines for delivery of materials to program teams
Order business cards for HQ staff
Order I-TECH stickers and branded products, as allowable

A bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or related field is required, in addition to 2 years of work experience.
Strong writing and proofreading skills in English
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) and Adobe design software (Illustrator and/or InDesign, Photoshop)
Strong interest in global development and public health
Previous experience working with a variety of individuals with diverse backgrounds and expertise
Resourceful self-starter with the ability to solve problems independently
Knowledge of basic website management (Wordpress and/or Drupal)
Fluency in social media platforms
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Previous experience/study in global health, public health, or development issues
Experience working within different cultural contexts
Strong design skills
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check.
This full time positon is based at the I-TECH offices at the UW in Seattle. The Communications Specialist requires occasional participation in early morning and late evening telephone conference calls in order to accommodate time zone differences between Seattle and its country project sites.
