Reporting to the Director of Network & Support Services, the Network Administrator (Boston, MA) will provide expertise, advice and support for the organization around network architecture and operations. You will also provide support for the mission critical servers, users, and applications sustaining Year Up’s locations across the United States. This will be a lead position in Network Infrastructure with responsibility for maintaining the current environment in a large wide area network, planning and detailing scope changes as new equipment and servers are added to the network.
The current IT environment supports an estimated 800+ staff, 2000+ students, 1500+ workstations, and 15 servers. Equipment includes but is not limited to: desktops and laptops (Lenovo, Dell and HP), Dell PowerEdge servers, HP printers, some fax and copier service, Sophos firewalls, Routers and Dell PowerConnect and Cisco Meraki switches and wireless access points, and smart phones. Software includes but is not limited to: Microsoft Windows 8.1 and 10, MS Office (O365 and Office 2016), MS Server (2012 & 2016), Exchange 2016, Backup and Recovery, and MS Hyper-V.
This individual will also act as a point of escalation for junior support staff. You will support, or lead, organization-wide information technology projects. A successful Network Administrator (Boston, MA) will continually keep abreast of industry technology, and will proactively analyze, recommend, and implement new solutions.

As a senior support team member
Support, mentor and cross train team members.

As a direct support provider
Provide excellent customer support services to all staff and students, supporting computers, printers, phones, infrastructure services and other peripheral devices for all Year Up Sites across the Unites States
Work with the IT team to define and continually update hardware and software standards
Monitor network performance using PRTG, Meraki, Wireshark and other software, and act as escalation point for technical requests
Optimize and maintain network equipment and operations to ensure minimal downtime and unplanned service interruptions
Assist or lead office relocations, expansions and setups as they pertain to IT Infrastructure and services
Analyze and resolve network performance and connectivity issues
Perform routine system maintenance, including system updates, log checking, etc.
Provide individual or small-group training on computer applications
Support Audio & Video (including video conferencing systems)
Consult with user community on range of often-complex hardware, software, and operating system issues
Log all requests, problems and resolutions in Zendesk ticket tracking system
As a National team member
Serve as a key member of the National IT group, liaising with local sites on all IT issues and projects
Work with the rest of the IT leadership team to improve the way technology is delivered to the enterprise, including finding, implementing, and documenting integrated solutions to computer and network problems
Innovate and think outside the box regarding how Year Up can do things better and faster, particularly in regards to IT infrastructure and classroom technology solutions
Assist the Director of Network and Support Services to develop best practices and implement industry standards, define procedure documentation
Join and sometimes facilitate group sessions with students
Facilitate, contribute and participate in staff meetings and trainings
5+ years of combined training and experience supporting Windows-based IT systems required
The following certifications are a plus: Network+, Security+, CCNA, MCSA, MCSE
Thorough knowledge of networking standards including, IPsec, SSL, VPN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, layers of the OSI Model and routing protocols
Extensive, in-depth knowledge and experience with managed switches, firewalls and wireless access points
Knowledge of Storage Area Network (SAN) configuration, management and troubleshooting a plus
Experience with WAN optimization/acceleration technology is a plus
Experience with planning, overseeing and implementing IT Infrastructure based projects a strong plus
Experience with Intrusion Detection Systems, including the ability to analyze, implement, document and defend vulnerability patching preferred
Strong knowledge and experience in Microsoft Server technologies, including Active Directory, IIS, SharePoint and Group Policy highly desirable
Knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, and Windows Deployment Services (or similar disk imaging software). Experience with Office 365 and MS Lync administration a plus
Demonstrated reliable and methodical approach to troubleshooting issues and maintenance of systems
Experience troubleshooting, upgrading and repairing desktop and notebook hardware
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including solid verbal and written communications
Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
Ability to handle a large volume of wide ranging user requests in a fast-paced and highly visible entrepreneurial environment
Must be able to lift equipment (up to 25lbs)
Must be able to travel to sites across the United States, up to 25%
