The Study Abroad Advisor supports the Director of Study Abroad in providing results-oriented administration for the global learning programs in Global Engagement. The Study Abroad Advisor is part of a small dynamic team that consists of the Director of Study Abroad and the Assistant Director of Study Abroad and the larger team that supports Global Engagement at the University through programs and initiatives that engage students, faculty and staff. Approximately one-third of SCU undergraduates study abroad for a quarter or longer and may participate in multiple learning abroad opportunities. In the 2017 Open Doors report Santa Clara University ranks #16 in the nation among all Master's Colleges and Universities for the number of students studying abroad and #7 in the nation for students studying abroad on mid-length programs.
Following the 2011 University Strategic Plan that prioritized Global Engagement and Understanding, the University has entered a phase of dynamic growth and development of global initiatives and enhanced connections among global programs throughout the University including international students, international scholars, global partnerships, and programs emphasizing diversity and intercultural and global learning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Student Outreach, Advising and Learning a. Advise students on the range of global learning opportunities within the portfolio of available programs to SCU students b. Serve as primary advisor for outreach and advising c. Compile data related to outreach efforts and maintain student interest lists d. Lead outreach efforts for current and prospective students by maintaining accurate and consistent communications through Terra Dotta, email, website and other social platforms e. Coordinate and schedule major events such as the fall Study Abroad Fair, Study Abroad 101 sessions and orientation f. Manage Bronco Abroad Ambassador Program (program for returned study abroad students) and arrange student participation in campus-wide events such as, Preview Days and Family Weekend g. Contribute to campus diversity and inclusion goals by promoting global learning opportunities to diverse student and campus populations h. Support study abroad application and selection process i. Contribute to the design and delivery of pre-departure orientation programming j. Maintain awareness of health and safety issues which might impact students abroad k. Manage student assistant tasks and projects for study abroad l. Represent Global Engagement Office at professional meetings
2. Administration, Communication, Data a. Maintain and update SCU Study Abroad website as well as develop new web content b. Manage programs, application cycles and student communication in Terra Dotta c. Build upon and develop social media presence for SCU Study Abroad (YouTube channel, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) d. Assist with running reports and data analysis to improve efficiencies
3. Other duties as assigned a. These duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs b. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
1. Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services. 2. Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices. 3. Maintains contact with constituents and solicits feedback for improved services. 4. Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; plans training and performance initiatives. 5. Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow. 6. Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions. 7. Prepares and submits reports as requested and required. 8. Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of Global Engagement throughout the University

Education and/or Experience
BA Required; MA preferred
A minimum of 1 year of professional experience in higher education required. Experience in education abroad preferred but experience in academic advising, residence life or other student-facing experience is also desirable.
Hiring Range: $23.69 - 27.23 hourly; commensurate with experience
