Taylor University is seeking applications and nominations of distinguished candidates to teach in the department of modern languages. This is a tenure-track position beginning August 2018. Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Doctorate in hand, or nearing completion, in Spanish and native or near-native fluency in Spanish. A record of successful college teaching, research, and professional activity is preferred. An interest in study abroad programs and/or technology as it relates to language teaching is desired.
Candidates must also have a personal, vibrant faith and Christian walk and be strongly committed to the educational mission and evangelical Christian orientation of the University. Teach a variety of courses in the Spanish curriculum, depending on his interests and expertise, including: culture and civilization of Hispanic America, Spanish linguistics, conversation, pedagogy, and elementary and intermediate courses. The normal teaching load is 24 hours. Student advising and other normal faculty and departmental duties are also expectations. The successful candidate will demonstrate her/his commitment to the life of the mind through participation in professional organizations and scholarship and will be committed to the integration of faith and learning.
The Department of Modern Languages has two full-time and two part-time faculty members teaching first and second-year courses in support of the two-year B.A. language requirement. The full-time faculty also teach a diverse set of upper-level language, literature and culture courses on-campus and abroad to approximately 20 majors studying Spanish or Spanish Education and 70 minors in Spanish. The department also supports students majoring in International Studies with a concentration core in French or Spanish.
