The Treehouse Childhood Cancer Initiative enables sharing of pediatric cancer genomic data. It makes it possible to analyze a child's cancer data against both childhood and adult patient cohorts across all types of cancer. Treehouse is initiative under the auspices of the Genomics Institute at UCSC. The Genomics Institute creates advanced technologies and open-source genomics platforms to unravel evolutionary patterns, molecular processes and the underpinnings of disease. Our platforms, technologies and scientists unite global communities to create and deploy data-driven, life-saving treatments and innovative environmental and conservation efforts. The Genomics institute is openly and responsibly sharing what is learned and created. It is a public institution dedicated to creating a healthier world.
The incumbent will be involved in developing and utilizing computational tools to analyze and interpret biological or other research data. Utilizes and develops algorithms, computational techniques, and statistical methodologies. Helps in the design of new experiments. Implements end-user needs in database searching and integration. Maintains the computational infrastructure and tracks the flow of samples and information for large-scale studies. Provides web-based bioinformatics and access to public and proprietary databases.
Bachelor's degree in biological science, computational/programming, or related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Requires thorough knowledge of bioinformatics methods, bioinformatics programming design, modification and implementation, and data structures.
Must have an understanding of precision medicine and an interest in childhood cancer research and application.
Requires understanding of relational databases, web interfaces, and operating systems.
Requires strong presentation skills.
