Full Time; Career Starting Salary Range: $100,000-$132,000/annually. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Involves advising on intellectual property licensing and technology transfer related issues. Evaluates the commercial potential of research results; drafts and negotiates, and manages IP licenses and Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), and advises on IP terms in research and collaboration agreements. Supports and manages the administration of industry sponsored research agreements. Facilitates administration of federal and state laws regarding research, conflict of interest, IP, contracts and employment.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Research (IATC), the Director will develop and manage an IP licensing program that enhances research and technology transfer opportunities, fosters partnerships around services and support, and promotes collaborations that are mutually beneficial to both industry and the University. The Director will manage the full spectrum of IP licensing transactions and will be responsible for establishing, managing and strengthening IP-related agreements between UCSC and industry stakeholders. The Director will work closely with the UC Office of the President with regard to intellectual property licensing matters and with various campus units for related matters. The Director will be the primary signing authority for all UCSC licensing contracts and agreements.
The Director of Licensing must be adaptable, dynamic, enthusiastic, energetic and ready to do what the task requires to ensure UCSC exceeds the expectations of its stakeholders. Must be a business professional experienced in the development and negotiation of contractual agreements, a strategic thinker and self-driven. This position would be of interest to someone who wishes to work in contract development and administration at a not-for-profit, technology commercialization organization and be involved in a complex, dynamic and diverse environment.
Having wide-ranging experience, the director uses intellectual property licensing models and organization objectives to resolve the most complex issues with little or no precedent where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Is considered a subject matter expert in the organization and often recognized as an expert externally in the technology transfer industry.

A four-year Bachelor's degree.
Law degree (JD) or equivalent work experience in developing and managing legal contractual agreements.
At least 10 years of experience in negotiating technology partnerships.
At least 10 years of contract development, negotiation and administration.
At least 5 years in a university technology transfer / licensing office.
