The incumbent will support the UC Santa Cruz Genomics Institute in reaching goals and deliverables related to analysis of genomic data gathered from partner clinical trials. The position focuses on bioinformatics analysis to support scientific research currently underway for the St. Baldrick's Foundation and California Kids Cancer Comparison (CKCC). The position also may be asked to assist with gathering genomic datasets from published studies, conducting reviews of relevant literature, and evaluating various public bioinformatic tools and data repositories
The Junior Data Analyst is part of a highly collaborative team working on projects such as CKCC, a project that brings the power of big data bioinformatics to help pediatric oncologists match cancer therapies to individual patients based on their genomic profiles. In this position the Junior Data Analyst will be tasked with applying bioinformatics tools developed by the Treehouse team and elsewhere to identify therapeutic leads and novel directions for clinical investigation for individual patients. The leads will be identified by leveraging data from the NCI's pediatric and adult tumor genomic initiatives and genomic data generated by ongoing pediatric clinical trials. In addition to primary bioinformatics analysis, the Junior Data Analyst's duties may include harmonizing data sets, facilitating review of large datasets, quality control of automated bioinformatics analysis, and overseeing study data integrity. Some travel to partners and collaborators may be required to fulfill job functions, as will literature research and writing.
Advanced problem solving skills.
Strong familiarity with cancer biology and developmental biology, with an emphasis on cancers that occur in children, adolescents and young adults.
Proven experience of being a self-starter and being able to take initiative and think creatively and outside of the box, while working independently and across diverse groups.
Knowledge of new experimental methodologies, large genomic datasets, and the computational analysis needed to successfully define the use of these data and monitor data flow through pipelines.
Strong familiarity with bioinformatics and computational biology.
