The PhD in Population Health Sciences (PHS) is a joint collaboration between the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health to offer a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Population Health Sciences. The program is designed to encourage students to benefit from connections between public health disciplines and a broader range of academic disciplines represented across the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS).
Students in this program are based at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and concentrate in one of the following Fields of Study: Environmental Health (EH), Epidemiology (EPI), Global Health and Population (GHP), Nutrition (NUT), and Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS).
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for processing all Stipend and Tuition for the PHS program - Reviewing all student's accounts to ensure the stipend and tuition are paid correctly and in a timely manner. This process involves complex coordination with five departments (Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Global Health and Population, Nutrition and Social Behavioral Sciences) - Responsible for processing and overseeing the PHS program's accounts receivables and accounts payables transactions, including vendor payments, invoices, journal entries, credit memos, corporate card and reimbursements - Researching and resolving any accounts payable issues, such as possible duplicate invoices, discrepancies between approved purchase orders and invoices received, missing documentation, etc. - Responsible for monitoring budget balances and reconciling the PHS program's accounts, making use of the subject matter expertise of internal and external financial regulations - Serves as a point of contact for students and faculty for financial questions regarding stipend, tuition and programmatic activities - Providing financial data to Program Managers for financial planning and decision making. - Responsible for collecting and organizing all the programmatic data for training grant submission. Will assist with, and review the submission of Training grants and fellowships, providing policy guidelines and budget recommendations - Supporting program coordinator in events such as Orientation, Admissions Interview Days, Workshops,etc. - Provides coverage for teammates - Other duties as assigned

- 5+ years of related experience required, with at least 2 of those years of experience in finance, grants management, or experience working in an academic environment; a combination of education and experience may be considered
- Bachelor's degree strongly preferred - Experience with Oracle and/or Harvard financial systems (including HCOM, OBI, CREW, Wasabi, etc.) preferred as well as a desire and aptitude to learn complex data query tools - Experience with spreadsheets and database software - Financial/accounting background strongly preferred - Strong written and oral communication skills required - Ability to work independently with minimal supervision - Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion - Attention to detail, high level of accuracy, and excellent organizational skills with experience prioritizing work in an environment with multiple and conflicting interests
