Reporting to the head coach, helps develop strategies for developing and maintaining large a highly visible intercollegiate sport program. Responsible for overseeing specific aspects of the program including, but not limited to, individual player development, teaching skills, planning and execution of practice and meets, on and off-campus recruiting, as well as various administrative duties for team travel. Must be attentive to detail; keep accurate records; and possess an ability to work with a diverse constituency, including but not limited to students, parents, coaches, faculty, staff administrators, prospective students, and other outside contacts. Must foster an environment of NCAA compliance. May provide guidance to other personnel. Assumes head coach responsibilities as needed. Additionally staff are expected to embrace the NCAA DIII philosophy and UCSC Principles of Community. The Assistant Coach reports directly to the Head Coach.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
Must possess CPR/AED/First Aid certification or have the ability to obtain it within 14 days of hire.
Must possess a valid license to drive in the State of California and be able to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) pull notice program.
Will be required to complete Title IX (Sexual Harassment) training within one month of hire and training every two years.
This position has a 4 month period of working 100% and 2 months of 50% time.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training with a college-level program.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with athletic participants.
Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making; be an effective problem solver and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Specialized knowledge of the team sport or activity, as well as basic technical expertise in coaching principles.
Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
