Under the supervision of the Director of Learning Support Services and Assistant Director of Learning Support Services, the Modified Supplemental Instruction (MSI)/Tutor Coordinator will be responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of the tutorial and Modified Supplemental Instruction programs including the selection, hiring, training and supervision of undergraduate subject tutors and Learning Assistants that provide peer learning opportunities for over 1/3 (approximately 6000 students) of the undergraduate student population in all academic disciplines. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Learning Support Services, establish and carry out procedures that follow University and UAW policies for over 200 tutors each quarter. The MSI/Tutor Coordinator will also be responsible for compiling data, writing reports, representing the MSI/Tutorial components on campus wide committees, and working closely with staff and faculty. Working with the Assistant Director of Learning Support Services, the MSI/Tutor Coordinator will ensure that all UCSC students receive effective academic support while placing special emphasis on the learning needs of EOP, DRC, Transfer, and students experiencing academic difficulty and addressing education equity issues.
Learning Support Services offers small group course specific tutoring, Modified Supplemental Instruction (MSI), writing tutoring, and drop-in services for all undergraduate students at UCSC. Programs are grounded in educational theory that supports the academic development of students through these peer-led services that address and minimize educational equity issues. LSS provides academic support across all five divisions: Arts, School of Engineering, Humanities, Physical and Biological Sciences, and Social Sciences employing over 400 Peer Tutors each year and serving over 6,000 undergraduate students. Learning Support Services works closely with the Education Opportunity Program (EOP), Services to Transfer and Re-Entry Program (STARS), Disability Resource Center (DRC), Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives, and the colleges to increase the success rate of non-traditional students.
Learning Support Services has a permanent operating budget of approximately $900,000, HSI funded grants currently have a budget of $1,900,000 annually.

Bachelor's degree in a related area.
Experienced knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural / linguistic issues in applying academic support to students.
Experience and knowledge in training and supervising tutorial and student staff in a college setting and implementation of study skills and other academic support programs and the ability to design and conduct workshops and seminars to enhance student academic skills.
Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution.
Knowledge in designing and implementing learning and pedagogical models.
