Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Project Assistant for the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. The incumbent in this position supports a federally funded grant designed to develop and iteratively refine a technology-based professional development model for early career teachers working in high-poverty schools.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
Develops data collection measures and materials.
Assists in the training of students in data collection methods.
Assists in the development and maintenance of all databases.
Enters, analyzes and checks data in a customized computerized database.
Conducts literature searches and collects scientifically and empirically supported relevant data to assist in preparation of manuscripts, journal articles, and conference presentations.
Engages in field-based data collection, recruitment, and overseeing undergraduate students.
Supports IRB applications and ensures compliance with IRB protocols, operational policies and procedures.
Oversees data collection activities occurring within the lab and within schools.
This position involves gathering data from school personnel, developing procedures for entering and tracking data, and helping train students to collect standardized observations of classroom practices.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in a related scientific field or discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant research experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of general principles and practices within a discipline and ability to use that knowledge for practical application
Good communication skills in order to work with school personnel and recruit teachers to participate in the study
Computer literacy, with particular skill in word processing, Excel, and SPSS
Knowledge of working collaboratively with high-poverty schools strongly preferred
Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field
Previous experience working in the areas of education and/or psychology research
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Local travel to research sites is required.
Must have valid driver license and reliable access to transportation.
