Senior Library Specialist-Systems-Technology Support
The Library is seeking applications for the position of Senior Library Specialist to work in the Systems Technology Support department. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing skilled tasks in support of services and activities of the Library. The incumbent supports library services with reliable, up-to-date, computing networks and operating systems as resources allow, and educates library staff about relevant and emerging systems technology. This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday as a member of the Libraryâ™s bargaining unit staff.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Installs, configures, maintains, and provides support for software, computers and other technical equipment (peripherals and printers)
Customizes workstations to incorporate non-supported software unique to library
Identifies and distributes technological resources (computers, peripherals, printers, and software) that support library services
Troubleshoots hardware, software, and other technical equipment (computers, peripherals, and printers) to resolve or isolate technological problems
Provides technology orientation, training, instruction, and support for library staff
Promotes an environment that ensures the integrity of both data and files on library computers through education, configuration, standardization, and problem solving
Serves as resource for computer and related systems applications
Keeps informed of new developments in hardware and software applicable to library use
Works to insure safety and security of technological equipment
Gathers data about supported equipment and information on work performed
Writes documentation to support staff training
May be required to provide technical support and services for media equipped classrooms in library buildings as it relates to duties and responsibilities of the job
Trains and provides guidance and assistance to co-workers
May be required to refer problems to vendor technical support in the absence of the supervisor
Trains, schedules workflow, and directs student assistants
Performs related duties as required
Bachelorâ™s degree with specialization in information technology or a related field; or two-year college degree with emphasis in information or computer technology and equivalent experience; or equivalent work experience
Working knowledge of operating systems and network clients
Experience providing technical support in an academic environment preferred
Capacity to learn new technologies and systems necessary to effective, continued job performance
Oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate technical information to non-experienced or non-technical personnel
Problem solving skills
Ability to interact favorably with co-workers and library users
Ability to perform detailed work accurately with reasonable speed
Knowledge of one or more foreign languages desirable
May be required to move and/or lift equipment up to 50 lbs.
Successful completion of a test may be required.
