Nebraska Music Education Association (NMEA) is seeking proposals for new management services, including an Executive Director, to lead the organization in conjunction with the organization’s volunteer leadership.
NMEA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization of music educators founded in 1937. To achieve the goals of our mission, we provide continuing education opportunities, recognition, scholarships and advocacy to our educators. For their students, we offer education, auditions, competitions and performance opportunities. All members and member students are eligible to attend the annual Conference/Clinic and All-State Performance Ensembles held in November each year. Website is www.NMEAnebraska.org.
SCOPE OF SERVICES:
CENTRAL OFFICE FACILITIES
Provide central office facilities and services, including:
maintain calendar of events, documents, records and files, and supplies;
serve as registered agent for the Association;
service email inquiries;
develop, support and update website and email systems;
execute contracts and commitments, defining duties and expectations, and informing board of status of contracts.
Manage business operations, including:
organization’s assets and resources;
hire and manage contractors;
develop/review/sign/execute contracts or other agreements necessary to operations;
submission of grants, administrative records and reports as required by funders;
compliance with regulatory authorities and submission of required forms and documents in a timely fashion;
finances within established budget guidelines and Board policy.
Maintain/update membership marketing materials;
respond promptly to telephone and email;
mail and email membership materials, applications and letters to prospects;
add prospects to database;
implement membership promotion plans;
publish and maintain online membership directory;
publish and distribute general membership mailings and maintain appropriate mailing list;
assess and develop need for supplemental communication, including use of an electronic newsletter.
BOARD AND COMMITTEE FUNCTIONS
Prepare Board meeting packets including agenda and email/post prior to meetings;
make or have made logistical arrangements for meetings;
record minutes of meeting and distribute;
maintain minutes files;
assist and advise the Board with policy issues, debate and decisions while adhering to board-established policies and management procedures;
maintain governing documents, including policy manual;
assist Chairs in developing meeting agendas; record and distribute minutes; make logistical arrangements; maintain minutes files.
STRATEGIC PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION
Achieve stated goals and objectives of the Board through effective program management. Successfully manage, implement and achieve goals and objectives by establishing programs and procedures.
Anticipate and position Association for strategic changes. Recognize emerging issues and position Association to effectively respond.
Work with the Board to annually update the strategic plan.
Establish clear annual operating goals and objectives consistent with the Strategic Plan and in alignment with the annual budget.
Develop and implement a long-term financial strategy to assure financial viability:
identify resource requirements for current and future programs and projects
identify and develop diverse funding sources (mandated funds, private and public donations and grants, industry support)
develop and grow a diversified revenue base, and develop and sustain relationships with key donors and funders
Maintain existing sponsorship relationships and develop new connections to obtain additional sponsors
Manage all aspects of the sponsorship process such as development of the prospectus, processing of contracts, and general correspondence
Collaborate with various departments across the Association to develop sponsorship opportunities for various projects and member benefits
Promote awareness, understanding and support for the mission and agenda with appropriate agencies, elected and appointed officials, allied industry organizations, and private companies (industry).
Represent Association at functions and via correspondence; respond to inquiries for information about Association.
MEETINGS AND EVENTS
Work with planning committees to plan and implement annual conference, workshops, membership meeting(s);
provide on-site Management of events;
assist with the development/layout of printed materials/flyers, etc.;
develop/review/sign/execute contracts or other agreements necessary to meetings;
maintain the master conference database, and assist with conference scheduling;
coordinate with President, President Elect, Past President and contractors on all details to ensure conference runs as smoothly as possible.

Executive Director (currently .5 to .75 FTE)
Administrative Assistant (.75 to 1 FTE)
Proposals should be emailed to Executive@NMEAnebraska.org; and should include company description and background, along with compensation requirements. A detailed resume of the person fulfilling the Executive Director role should be included. Applicant should have a proven record of organizational leadership, excellent written and oral communication skills, program development and management; Bachelor’s degree (graduate degree preferred); Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential preferred, but not required.
Nebraska Music Education Association (NMEA) is the statewide association for music educators, whose purpose is the advancement of music education through the promotion of better school music, and to foster active music-making by all Nebraskans.
