Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Accounting Specialist for Rutgers Health Services. This position provides financial and accounting support to the Associate Director of Finance & Administration of Rutgers Student Health (RSH). RSH consists of three health centers, two counseling centers (CAPS) and Health, Outreach, Promotion and Education (H.O.P.E), located on the New Brunswick campus which includes retail pharmacy services available to students, faculty and staff at each of the health centers. Rutgers Student Health works in an integrated and collaborative fashion with H.O.P.E, Recreation, Violence Prevention & Victims Assistance (VPVA), and CAPS to provide a system that strives to foster a culture of health and wellness on the campus, ultimately leading to student success. RSH consists of approximately 112 professional staff members and 7 VPVA professional staff members, with a budget of approximately $13 million, consisting of over 15 accounts.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists in a number of key areas including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, purchasing, cash and credit card operations and supervision for the areas of RSH and VPVA.
Responsible for the oversight of all account analyses, account reconciliations and adjusting entries for Rutgers Student Health (RSH) and the Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance unit during the monthly and year-end closing process.
Performs accounting for grants including but not limited to pre and post award budget submissions, salary re-allocations and journal entries.
Performs accounting for Rutgers University Foundation gift accounts which includes but is not limited to monthly reporting for Alcohol and Other Drug Assistance Programs and the College Support Program.
Generates standard and ad hoc custom reports for RSH and VPVA on a monthly basis and as requested by the Associate Director of Finance & Administration and the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Health and Wellness.
Ensures that he/she obtains the proper training regarding financial report generation as well stays informed of all new financial reports and reporting tools.
Assists the Associate Director of Finance and Administration in the development and submission of the annual budget into Hyperion Planning, and with budget presentations to senior leadership.
Analyzes current and historical accounting data for over fifteen accounts to develop, and submit accurate forecasts of revenues and expenditures into Hyperion Planning for RSH and VPVA.
Performs variance analyses between budget and actuals expenditures for RSH and VPVA.
Reviews and analyzes all business transactions to ensure they are reasonable, appropriate, and necessary, and to ensure that funds are not overspent.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or finance or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience plus a minimum of two years' experience that demonstrates accounting knowledge, understanding and competency.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires the ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and an excellent understanding of accounting concepts, theories, principles, practices, and terminology.
Must have excellent analytical abilities, and be able to identify trends in financial data; also demonstrates strong communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel.
Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with great attention to detail.
Must have demonstrated advanced level Excel skills and hands-on experience in the use of enterprise or integrated financial accounting systems.
Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
Proficiency in the use of MS Word and Outlook.
Certified public accountant.
All Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
Oracle, Peoplesoft and Hyperion university applications.
