The Rover Resource Center, funded through a PHS contract with the California Department of Public Health, Tobacco Control Program (TCP), is based in the Department of Public Health Sciences. Supervised by the Community Health Program Manager-Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing a range of translational research services and resources to meet the information needs of the various resource center users. Specific duties include but are not limited to: translate complex scientific concepts and findings, in the context of broader topics in tobacco control and public health to create policy briefs focusing on policy implications related to research findings; create associated infographics, social media, slides, and/or podcasts related to policy briefs; create policy fact sheets for general audiences in English and Spanish languages; produce podcast interviews with researchers, TCP, and TCP grantees; market and dissemination of materials; and establish and coordinate an ad hoc expert review panel. Contact with resource center users, researchers, podcast interviewees, and ad hoc panel is primarily through e-mail and telephone. This fulltime, career position is a grant-funded position with an end date of February 28, 2019 for funding purposes only. The grant will very likely be refunded.REQUIRED--Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or a related field, plus two years of experience in professional writing in science, health or technology.--Demonstrated experience to interpret data and scientific research into meaningful content for a policy or advocacy audience.--Substantial experience successfully producing effective materials, including policy briefs, fact sheets, and social media content. Demonstrated skills to write engaging text. --Demonstrated experience writing and editing professional articles in the English language, with extensive knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. --Experience in developing and researching topics, developing scripts and interview questions. --Experience with aspects of audio production, including recording, finding clips, editing, mixing, and production. --Experience with coordinating episodes and podcast speakers, booking speakers and facilities as needed. --Outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills, active listening skills and political acumen to interact with faculty, funders, other professionals, and project staff.--Outstanding organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize and coordinate several projects simultaneously while maintaining strict attention to detail.PREFERRED--Experience working with tobacco control or public health preferred. --Spanish language skills preferred.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
