UW Information Technology is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW. Networks & Telecommunications within UW-IT is responsible for designing, building and operating the University's wired and wireless networks and telecommunications services, bringing together network architecture, engineering, operations and support teams.
UW-IT has an outstanding opportunity for a Network Engineer.
Network Operations Management (NOM) activates network/phone ports and installs switches, wireless access points, and routers for the networks supporting the UW, UW Medicine, Pacific Northwest Gigapop and the state K-20 Education Network; and provides 24x7x365 network monitoring and troubleshooting.
The Network Operations Management division supports the state K-20 Education Network and national and international networks, including the Pacific Northwest Gigapop, Internet2 and others. It also provides standards and services for wired and wireless networks (including data transport) and delivers critical services to the University in support of teaching, learning, administration and research.
The Network Engineer position is to directly support the State of Washington K-20 Telecommunications Network: to assist in the production of availablity reports, to perform statistical problem analysis, and ensure the customer contacts and operational state are correctly recorded.
Bachelors degree in computer engineering, computer science or related field or experience. Minimum of four years experience network troubleshooting and incident management in a large and complex network environment. Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
CCNP/CCIE/JNCIS/JNCIE, or equivalent experience Expertise in advanced networking technology including BGP, Multicast, MPLS, QoS, VRF, and VLAN Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated teamwork skills. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Experience in a research university.

This is an essential position and is required to report to work when UW suspends operations.
The Network operations Center operates an on-call rotation to ensure coverage during unexpected events.
This position is for first shift 5*8: (0900-1800) Monday through Friday
