UW Tacoma has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Finance Director.
Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance, the Associate Finance Director leads and supervises staff responsible for accounting functions of the University of Washington Tacoma. The Associate Finance Director monitors and prepares regular reports on departmental revenues, expenditures and debt, and researches and recommends procedures and policies to maintain the Campus's financial health and the efficiency of Finance operations. This position will be an integral part of the Finance Management Team.
Monitors transactions to assure the proper posting of revenues and expenses, researching errors and working with units to process corrections as needed, and processing journal vouchers and oversight of internal cost transfers.
Collaborates with the Campus Planning & Real Estate and Facilities Operations assisting in analyzing the costs and financing options for major capital works projects, preparing pro forma projections as needed to support informed decision-making and working with project managers in tracking expenditures.
Working with other managers in Finance, this position is responsible for creating and maintaining UW Tacoma's Administrative Policies and Procedures website.
Prepares, analyzes and disseminates revenue and expenditure reports, highlighting variances and working with academic and administrative units to address problematic trends to avoid over-expenditures.
Works with academic and administrative units in helping interpret and use financial information and comply with State and University policies.
Works with units and AVC to administer ASTRA authorizations.
Researches and recommends policies and procedures to strengthen campus financial management routines and improve finance department efficiency.
Monitors campus debt and post award grant programs to assure compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
Supervises a diverse team of professional and classified staff accountable for core financial management and analysis functions.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in accounting or related field. Five or more years of experience in providing professional accounting and financial management services, preferably in an institution of higher education. Three or more years' experience in supervising both professional and technical staff.
Proven track record of working independently to complete tasks and projects on a timely basis. Proven presentation, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations, both orally and in writing. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact successfully with management, faculty, staff and students required. Strong time management skills.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Master's degree in Business or Financial Management, or equivalent industry experience. Familiarity with statistical methods including quantitative and qualitative analysis and interpreting data.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position may work more than 40 hours per week as needed.
