Posting Summary: The University of Virginia's Graduate Programs Office is seeking a Student Services Generalist to serve as the program coordinator for our MD/PhD combined degree program. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support and coordinating student processes from the time students apply until they earn their degrees. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, organizing applications and scheduling applicant interviews, overseeing registration and financial support for the students, monitoring student progress toward their degrees, coordinating student events, assisting with fellowship and training grant applications, maintaining student records, and providing data and support to the MD/PhD Director as well as the academic deans and other senior leadership for institutional needs and yearly progress reports to the National Institutes of Health. Individuals who enjoy interacting with students and faculty, work independently, and can effectively multitask are encouraged to apply.
The position requires a bachelor's degree and at least two years of experience in advanced academic program and fiscal coordination, and support in an area such as admissions, student records, and training grant administration. A master's degree and significant experience working with students at the post-secondary level as well as experience working within a diverse community is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 1. Strong interpersonal, analytical and communication skills are critical. 2. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities and needs. 3. Demonstrated ability to work with teams and individuals with divergent interests in effectively resolving issues is desired. 4. Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality within prescribed University and Federal regulations is required. 5. Experience creating and administering budgets. 6. Ability to independently assess a situation, resolve issue, and/or refer a student to an appropriate resource. 7. Ability to work successfully and navigate and maintain interpersonal relationships in a culturally diverse environment. 8. Outstanding listening skills required. 9. Knowledge of the UVA application process and academic policy and procedure is required. 10. Knowledge of Access database data entry required.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 1. Project management and program planning experience as well as experience working directly with a broad range of academic and administrative units are desirable. 2. A understanding of the academic mission of the University and a solid awareness of University processes, program and services is highly beneficial. 3. A working knowledge of administrative processes in higher education, especially a public university, or the ability to immediately generalize the knowledge of comparable processes from other professional settings is needed. 4. Diplomacy and negotiation skills are important. 5. Knowledge of budgeting and fiscal administration is preferred. 6. Knowledge of query management and report creation are preferred. 7. Web update and media design skills are preferred.
Required Computer Applications: Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Power Point are required.
