METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY, a vibrant and growing public, urban university, is seeking to fill a full-time, probationary (tenure track) assistant professor faculty positions within the School of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice in the College of Community Studies and Public Affairs. This position will involve providing leadership in law enforcement curriculum design and implementation, teaching courses in the Bachelor of Services (BS) in Law Enforcement Program, and teaching in the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Criminal Justice Studies. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body to provide the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for culturally competent practice. Beginning August 2018.
Teach Undergraduate Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice courses effectively at the University level.
Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement related to law enforcement or criminal justice.
Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study relevant to assigned duties.
Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.
Engage in service to the university and community.
Serve a nontraditional and culturally diverse student body through delivering a student-centered education in a liberal arts and sciences context.
Provide leadership and expertise in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice programs through curriculum development and coordination of the Professional Peace Officer Education (PPOE) programs.
Master's Degree in a discipline closely related to Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice Studies from a regionally accredited university
Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching law enforcement related courses at the post-secondary level.
Understanding of Minnesota Professional Peace Officer Education (PPOE) programming and Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) licensure requirements.
Demonstrated commitment to serving a nontraditional, culturally, economically and linguistically diverse student body.
Minimum 5 years of professional law enforcement experience.
Demonstrated ability to integrate policing practices and research with teaching.
Excellent communication skills (written & oral) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.
Ph.D. or other terminal degree in a discipline closely related to law enforcement or criminal justice studies from a regionally accredited University.
More than five years of professional law enforcement experience at a municipal, county, tribal or State agency in Minnesota.
Progressive law enforcement leadership experience with 3 or more years of supervisory and management background.
Active line of research or creative contributions to law enforcement as a profession and/or academic discipline.

The School of law Enforcement and Criminal Justice: The School of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice offers a variety of undergraduate and certificate programs in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. The Master of Science in Criminal Justice program is currently under revision. These programs blend solid academic and professional education with the broad perspectives of the liberal arts and offer flexible online, hybrid, day, evening, and weekend classes. Graduates of our programs work in a variety of areas in the criminal justice and law enforcement system, including all levels of law enforcement, probation and parole, non-profit organizations, the courts, corrections, private security, and other related areas.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement
