The Prospect Research Analyst is a Professional Faculty position reporting directly to the Director of Prospect Development. The Prospect Research Analyst will be responsible for identifying, collecting, and analyzing prospective and existing donors to VCU. The analyst position will conduct biographical, wealth, financial, and philanthropic research on prospects and collaborate on how this knowledge can be applied to fundraising operations. The analyst will utilize public, proprietary, and purchased databases for information to assess and analyze a prospect's affiliation, capacity, and inclination to give to VCU. Research deliverables including capacity ratings and profiles are thorough and prepared in a timely manner. Collaboration with prospect management analysts and other internal colleagues. Develop and maintain effective relationships with unit clients as well. The analyst will be able to recall, recognize and connect interrelated interests of prospects within the entire university system. The position will routinely perform data entry and is responsible for data integrity of prospect information.
The analyst must have the ability to work in a high paced, deadline driven environment. The ability to remain flexible with constantly changing and often opposing demands, while still meeting deadlines is essential. The ideal candidate will be service-oriented, model a positive attitude, be collaborative, creative, and resourceful. Strong research, technical, and writing skills with a keen attention to detail is a must. The ability to exercise discretion and maintain constituent confidentiality while conducting analytical research is required. Ability to work in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to develop proactive prospecting strategies. Must be highly organized, accurate, and analytical. Adheres to research guidelines, methodologies and code of ethics statements as defined by the Association for Professional Researchers in Advancement (APRA), the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and other related associations.
Must have an advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Previous experience with a relational database, preferably Blackbaud CRM or Raisers Edge. Experience within the higher education industry. Experience in data analysis. Experience with writing and presenting reports based on research. Preferred experience with relational databases, Microsoft Office, research databases such as LexisNexis, Corporate Affiliations, Dun and Bradstreet, Hoovers.
