The Xavier Laboratory is seeking a Research Technician you will perform research activities in collaboration with internal/external personnel to complete science-based projects. You will normally receive detailed instructions while making observations, analyzing data and interpreting results according to laboratory procedures. The Research Technician will provide support to all technical/research staff and postdocs.

Prepare laboratory equipment, instruments, solutions, assays and other supplies as required for research experiments.
Carry out laboratory work that may involve culture and/or cell separation methods; electrophoretic separations: assays (e.g. ELISA); molecular biology or other specialized science techniques such as next generation sequencing (the lab has a Illumina MiSeq machine), live cell imaging with fluorescence microscopy and preparing and operating a chemostat.
Operate other lab equipment such as centrifuges, pH meters, analytical balancers and plate readers as instructed.
Be involved in animal handling requiring injection of animals, collection/harvesting of tissues, fluids; animal autopsies in order to make chemical identification and conduct analyses.
Respond to and complete tasks as instructed by the P.I. (Joao Xavier), graduate students and postdocs associated with designated research projects by carrying out the requested activities.
Provide assistance with other research going on in the lab for other research personnel by completing tasks related to the projects within the deadline specified.
Perform necessary analysis and calculations, record data and writes reports on research findings.
Be responsible for purchasing equipment and materials for the laboratory.
Assist the Administrative Assistant in generation of purchase order information for supplies and equipment by gathering information for online purchase, and on inventorying of lab reagents.
Carry out laboratory work that may involve mice or mouse handling, or other experimental animal systems such as zebrafish.
Bachelors Degree in Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, etc.) with relevant laboratory experience.
