The role of the Primary School Learning Support Coordinator is to use leadership, pedagogy, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of every Primary School student. To accomplish this, AIS uses the Response to Intervention (RTI) model. As the coordinator, they are responsible for using data to set learning support priorities and delegate resources appropriately. In collaboration with the Principals and Head of Primary School, they design and implement professional development for teachers in Tier One and Two interventions and accommodations to support all learning styles. Working with families, they ensure the school recommends external support appropriately, in a timely manner and follows up on any recommendations.
The Primary School Learning Support Coordinator reports to the Head of the Primary School and has responsibilities as a learning support teacher (approx. 50%) and as a coordinator of the department.
5 years of learning support experience and a Special Education teaching certificate or related credentials. Experience leading a Learning Support team.
Essential Duties and Key Responsibility Areas of PSLS Coordinator
Leads and monitors the review, development, and implementation of individual and group student planning so that high quality and creative, individualized plans are developed and followed.
Models and shares what great Learning Support teachers do and is well versed in national and international best practices research.
Coaches and mentors teachers toward effective support of students with learning differences that is research and data-driven, to enhance student learning.
Serves as the lead member of the Student Support Services team which comprises learning support (3), EAL (1) and Counseling (2).
Liaises with Primary School Learning Support teachers and Principals to ensure continuity and age-appropriate uniformity of practices, policies, and procedures.
Supports and nurtures the development of an internationally minded, balanced, academically rigorous, positive and emotionally safe school climate for students and faculty within the framework of the learner profile.
Serves as a leader in the field of research-based learning support practices and is confident leading professional development workshops school-wide and within the learning support team.
Models and leads the integration of technology to enhance school learning support as appropriate.
Models, leads and respects the sensitive nature of learning differences and is compliant with ethical confidentiality standards.
Demonstrates advanced planning in developing and implementing the Learning Support budget.
Plans and monitors the direct impact of Learning Support teachers to students and other faculty.
Maintains permanent learning support files and documentation of current students.
Allocate resources and sets priorities in a data driven manner.
Ensures the seamless transfer of information to Secondary school and other educational institutions, in accordance with confidentiality guidelines.
Collaboration and Communication
Communicates and collaborates effectively to all stakeholders, in alignment with the mission, vision and strategic plan of the school.
Maintains a high visibility and accessibility to students, faculty, parents and other stakeholders as the leader of the Primary School Learning Support team.
Ensures the dissemination of information in a timely manner.
Assists with the admission process for Primary School Students.
Speaks and writes in a clear, effective and appropriate manner.
Student and Family Relationships
Demonstrates communication with students and families in a way that builds trust and rapport, engaging all stakeholders for the good of the student’s academic, social and emotional growth.
Commits to ensuring that ethical standards laid down by the American Disabilities Association are adhered to by the Primary School Learning support team.
Commits to ensuring that the Special Education rules as laid down by the Georgia Department of Education are implemented.
Maintains professional etiquette and confidentiality.

The Primary School Learning Support Coordinator is also a learning support teacher with the following responsibilities:
Observation, Identification and Initial Assessment of Learning Difficulties:
Observes students (referred by teachers, parents, and administrators) in their classroom settings.
Identifies children experiencing learning or behavior difficulties.
Assesses the difficulty in consultation with the teacher(s) and the parents.
Implementation of Classroom Learning Strategies:
Provides the staff with information about learning difficulties as well as strategies to deal with them.
Assists the teachers in implementing strategies to improve the learning of the students.
Direct Student Support:
Facilitates individual or group sessions in a pull out setting as needed.
Facilitates individual, group or whole class sessions in a push in classroom setting as needed.
Communicates regularly with the families of children with whom they are working directly.
Works closely with the teachers of these students and with the administration to ensure clear and timely communication about their situations
